5.0 von 5 Sternen Enlightening & Easy-to-Read all in one 11. August 2012
Von Forever Homesick - Veröffentlicht auf
What a breath of fresh air to find a book that so clearly and unpretentiously presents ways for the "common Christian" to better understand God's Truth! The chapters are perfectly bite-sized for those of us who are looking to cherish God more through the reading of His Word. Dr. Daryl Aaron has skillfully and discerningly taken 30+ years of theological study, including four graduate degrees in the field, and handcrafted a product that lends itself to a wide audience. Whether you are new in your faith or a long-time believer in Christ, this guide will expound innumerable Biblical contexts which will make reading the Scriptures a new & enlightening experience every time! I highly recommend this book.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Theology in Short Chapters! 9. Oktober 2012
Von Seeking Disciple - Veröffentlicht auf
If you are interested in studying theology but have little time then this book is perfect for you. The title itself suggests that you can understand theology in 15 minutes. Probably a bit of an overstatement there since God is beyond our understanding (Romans 11:33-36) but the title does suggest that if you have only 15 minutes, you can read a theology book. And this is the case with this book.

The book is broken into standard systematic theology studies. The book begins with knowing God and how can we know Him. Dr. Aaron then looks at the Bible since the Bible is the perfect guide to knowing and understanding God. With our Bibles in hand, we can now study God. From there we begin to learn about God's nature, the Trinity, creation including angels, demons, and Satan. We begin to learn about humanity, our fall into sin, and what original sin. The study of Jesus focuses on His deity, His becoming flesh, His life, death, and resurrection. The person and work of the Holy Spirit is discussed before moving into implications of Jesus' death and resurrection regarding our salvation. Here Dr. Aaron deals with the complex issues related to salvation such as election and whether Jesus died for all men or not (limited vs unlimited atonement) as well as eternal security of the believer. Dr. Aaron briefly discusses the Church before turning to end times events related to the second coming of Jesus Christ and heaven and hell.

Overall I thought the book was laid out well. Dr. Aaron moves quickly through the chapters and I actually could read them in less than 15 minutes. If you find you are short on time but want to understand the basics of Christian theology, this book is perfect for doing just that. I would take some issues with Dr. Aaron's views regarding Arminianism (being an Arminian) but I could lay those aside here. His views regarding Arminianism are the only reason I don't give the book 5 stars and I believe he is mistaken in his views regarding the teachings of Arminius but that is for another debate and another book. Overall, I enjoyed this book and believe you can benefit from it.

I reviewed this book from a review copy given to me by Bethany House Publishers.

"Why would anyone want to read the Bible?" Why wouldn't you, when it contains truth and life?!

OK, let's admit it, sometimes the Bible can be a little daunting. The author makes it very clear that this book is not designed as a substitute for reading the Bible. This book is written in a way to help you get the most out of your Bible reading. Divided in to forty chapters of approx. 15 minutes each, this book will provide answers to many, many questions. Reading this book will give you a good grounding in the Christian faith - a solid foundation.

What are some examples of questions answered in this book? (To list all forty would make this an essay, not a review!)

Where in the Bible can I learn ( and teach others) how to be saved? This is an excellent chapter discussing:
i)The Intention - How God originally created humans and the close, intimate relationship He wanted with us.
ii)The Problem (The Fall) The author describes us to be "like carnival mirrors that reflect a distorted and twisted image.
iii)The Solution - God is just which means He is fair and has to deal rightly with sinful people. However He also loves us and that is why He sent Jesus to die on the cross for us. All we have to do is accept His free gift by believing/trusting in Him.
iv)The Result - Believing, trusting and relying on Jesus sets us free from the power of sin. Does that we will never sin? No, but now we live to please God and are able not to sin.

The historical books of the Bible are Joshua, Judges, Ruth, 1&2 Samuel, 1&2 Kings, 1&2 Chronicles. Chapter 10 explains what you will find in these books. At the end of this chapter the author makes note of the final books of history - Ezra, Nehemiah and Esther.

What happened between the Old and New Testaments i.e. the 400 silent years? Find out in Chapter 13.

A very detailed look at the different New Testament segments - Gospels, Acts, Epistles etc. Revelation has it own chapter and although the author admits that is it a difficult book to understand, he also says "...the main theme is crystal clear: God will be victorious over all that opposes him (sin, sinners, Satan) through Jesus Christ..."

Ever wondered what the Canon means? Chapter 21 will help you understand.

In Chapters 26 thru 28, we are presented with the evidence that the Bible is the Word of God.

A good question is answered in Chapter 35: Are we expected to obey the laws of the Old Testament.? Chapter 36 helps us know where to learn about how God wants us to live.

Chapter 38 - What about memorizing scripture? How important is it? Psalms 119:11 says, "I have hidden your word in my heart so that I might not sin against you." Eleven practical suggestions are given for memorizing Bible verses and then in the following chapter we are given 7 basic principles on how to meditate on God's word.

After each chapter there is a fun fact, a few of which are:
Many of the best sellers today are self-help books but do you know the bestseller of all time? The Bible! The Bible is not a self-help book. It teaches us that we cannot help ourselves, only God can!
Did you know that the Dead Sea is the lowest point on earth, at 1300 feet below sea level?
The Sadducees only accepted the first five books of the Old Testament and rejected the rest!
The earliest list of all 27 books of the New Testament Canon is in AD367!

Excellent book :)
