Kurzbeschreibung

17. Juli 2012
The most up to date and comprehensive vacuum tube design book currently available. Packed with information...Loaded with projects...Nothing like it anywhere! Join Transcendent Sound’s Bruce Rozenblit as he takes you on a journey from the basics of tube circuitry, through advanced designs. Tubes and Circuits is a condensed engineering manual that teaches the theory and operation of vacuum tubes—as well as circuit design. In addition, five projects are included that you can build. Projects provide step-by-step design procedures, equations, schematics, parts lists, and photos to assist the hobbyist in construction. Build a state of the art, very low cost, 15W OTL (output transformerless) amplifier. Complete plans for a 300B OTL. Own most glorious 1 watt in all of audio. Pure single-ended, Class A sonic heaven. A tube tester that tests virtually all current production audio and guitar amp tubes—can be user modified to test any tube; a simple device used for testing most octal based rectifier tubes and a tube analyzer used for manually determining tube constants and bias currents. Tubes and Circuits provides all design procedures and equations necessary to allow readers to create their own designs. Practical methods are revealed—all built upon a solid theoretical base. Bruce Rozenblit shares his decades of experience designing hi-end tube audio equipment. Nothing has been held back. Topics include the essential physics required to understand circuits. Explains in detail what electricity is and how it works. Shows how DC current flows and behaves through resistive elements. Detailed information on AC circuit theory, reactive elements, and how they affect signals. What inductance is and how it is created. How components are used to create networks and interact with each other— includes transformer theory. Shows how feedback works and how best to use it. Reveals in detail the chemical and physical processes of how vacuum tubes function, generate current, age, and deteriorate. Shows how the electric fields inside vacuum tubes cause them to work. Demonstrates what tube constants are and how to use them. Shows how to use tube characteristic charts to derive the tube constants used in design equations. Explains load lines and their application. Detailed operation and all design equations for virtually all of the tube circuits used in high-end audio. Includes single-ended and push-pull transformer coupled output stages. Basic information on power supply design and function. All of the theory is put to use and made practical in the project chapters. Learn how to design OTL amplifiers. Anyone that uses vacuum tubes, from the hobbyist, the musician, to the design professional, would benefit from Tubes and Circuits.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Audio DIYer's "must-have" 30. Juli 2012
Von CharlieM - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
The long awaited follow up to "Audio Reality," this new book "Tubes and Circuits" is more in-depth and loaded with tons of useful and specific information. For anyone interested in electronics in general and tubes in particular. All presented in a manner in which even "non technical types" can follow. Although written for anyone, this is a "must-have" edition for any Do-It-Yourself (DIY) audio enthusiast, especially "tube-o-philes" or "tube-o-holics" if for no other reason than the included projects alone. Some of the projects presented are world class, tube-based, ingenious OTL (Output-Transformer-Less) amplifiers with printed curcuits and parts lists included. If you're into tube based audio this is the only book you'll ever need and one you'll definately want in your pile/stack/stash of literature. I already consider it reference material. Highly recommended!

A Very sequential and rewarding journey. Starting with thorough explanations of all basic and advanced concepts and equations. And then all the way to the Authors thought processes for designing and creating the best audio equipment in the industry! Tons of examples are given for concepts that are normally difficult to visualize. I also like the way no statement goes unsupported by scientific fact. I will be reading it more than once. I am amazed by the designs given away in this book. This Author is the Robin Hood of audio!
5.0 von 5 Sternen Fun and interesting 15. Mai 2013

It's not as easy to find good books on tube electronics anymore, in this age of the semi-conductor. But tubes have their own fascination and features that make them unique, which starts with the fact that tubes are basically voltage-controlled devices and transistors are basically current-controlled devices.

This book contains a fun collection of DIY projects aimed mainly at those interested in building their own OTL (output transformerless amps). But there are several other projects as well, such as a tube tester and a low power amp that are also interesting in their own right. There's tons of miscellaneous useful information on various tube concepts that will expand your knowledge. The book starts out with a basic introduction to electronics and tubes that even an inexperienced non-hobbyist and non-engineer would be able to follow with a little effort.

If you want a general introduction to tubes that includes more specialized tube concepts such as lighthouse tubes (a type of triode tube useful in ultra-high frequency applications such as microwave communications), cavity resonators and cavity magnetrons, tube waveguides, or klystron tubes (also useful in microwave ovens and particle accelerators), you'll need to get a text on general communications electronics such as the classic book by Robert Shrader. But for a terrific little hobby book with some great projects and easy to understand explanations you won't find better than this book.
