Fun and interesting 15. Mai 2013
Von Magellan - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
It's not as easy to find good books on tube electronics anymore, in this age of the semi-conductor. But tubes have their own fascination and features that make them unique, which starts with the fact that tubes are basically voltage-controlled devices and transistors are basically current-controlled devices.

This book contains a fun collection of DIY projects aimed mainly at those interested in building their own OTL (output transformerless amps). But there are several other projects as well, such as a tube tester and a low power amp that are also interesting in their own right. There's tons of miscellaneous useful information on various tube concepts that will expand your knowledge. The book starts out with a basic introduction to electronics and tubes that even an inexperienced non-hobbyist and non-engineer would be able to follow with a little effort.

If you want a general introduction to tubes that includes more specialized tube concepts such as lighthouse tubes (a type of triode tube useful in ultra-high frequency applications such as microwave communications), cavity resonators and cavity magnetrons, tube waveguides, or klystron tubes (also useful in microwave ovens and particle accelerators), you'll need to get a text on general communications electronics such as the classic book by Robert Shrader. But for a terrific little hobby book with some great projects and easy to understand explanations you won't find better than this book.

Circuits 101 7. November 2013

I was one of the first persons to buy this book so I have had a lot of time with it. I have been involved in tube electronics for over 40 years and have built kits and modified existing tube preamps and amplifiers but never fully understood how the different components worked with each other or how to size them. This book answered almost all of my questions in a simple straight forward way. One thing about this book, a lot of information is contained in a very few words so every time I reread a section I locate information that I thought he did not cover. Worth every penny.

Build your own 19. Juni 2013

Bruce Rozenblit is a superb engineer who has designed amazing amplifiers for DIYers. I bought this book chiefly as I wanted the designs for his latest and greatest amps (I have built 3 others, 1 from his earlier book 'Audio Reality' and 2 from his website). Every one has been a marvel. If you want some of the best value in audio available and don't want the hassle of sourcing your own parts, buy his kits. If you like to do everything your self, buy the book and implement his designs. You won't be sorry.

Audio DIYer's "must-have" 30. Juli 2012
Von CharlieM - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
The long awaited follow up to "Audio Reality," this new book "Tubes and Circuits" is more in-depth and loaded with tons of useful and specific information. For anyone interested in electronics in general and tubes in particular. All presented in a manner in which even "non technical types" can follow. Although written for anyone, this is a "must-have" edition for any Do-It-Yourself (DIY) audio enthusiast, especially "tube-o-philes" or "tube-o-holics" if for no other reason than the included projects alone. Some of the projects presented are world class, tube-based, ingenious OTL (Output-Transformer-Less) amplifiers with printed curcuits and parts lists included. If you're into tube based audio this is the only book you'll ever need and one you'll definately want in your pile/stack/stash of literature. I already consider it reference material. Highly recommended!

Not Quite What I Expected or Needed.......... 26. Dezember 2012

After reading a favorable review of this book in Vintage Guitar magazine, I ordered a copy to enhance my knowledge of guitar amplifier circuits. Upon arrival I was disappointed to find that my $32+ had purchased a rather thin paperback book a little larger than a Reader's Digest. Then, quite frankly, the text and projects disappointed even more. After a lengthy review of high school physics, the author covers some interesting material (circuits) and then digresses into (for me) less compelling topics such as output-transformerless (OTL) hi-fi amplifiers and several projects that were of absolutely no interest, including the construction of a tube tester.

Perhaps an audiophile, in need of a homemade tube tester and interested in the design and construction of OTL audio amplifiers, would find this book to be a valuable asset; but to those, like me, who simply want to know more about traditional tube-amplifiers (with output transformers), its assets were greatly outweighed by its cost. At $12.95 I would have kept it......but at $32+ I returned it for a refund (which did not include postage either way).

In conclusion: I strongly suggest that prior to order, you carefully study the overview of contents (available on Amazon), to be sure that this book is really what you're looking for. Even though it was reviewed in magazines like Vintage Guitar, it is primarily focused on rather esoteric OTL hi-fi amps.
