Den einen Stern gibt es für die Idee. Die hörte sich wirklich gut an. Aber der Rest ist unglaubwürdig und moralinsauer. Sorry.

2.0 von 5 Sternen Good Story Line, Poorly Written. 5. Oktober 2011
Von Laura C. Elliott - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
I read a great deal... often devouring 6 books a week on my Kindle. So when I see a new series, I like to purchase the entire series so I can get a good feel for the author. I do not like leaving negative reviews, but instead constructive criticism that I hope the author takes to heart to become a great author. I see that potential here.

The Positives: The story line is excellent. It has a different twist from the many paranormal/magic style stories out there, filled with adventure. It has a large character base with plenty of room to grow and develop additional stories. It has a strong moral code base, plays at strong female roles, and a nice young love story.

The Negatives: The writing style is still immature. Granted I know nothing regarding the age of the author, but I would suspect a great deal of the writing could be fixed with a strong editor and a writing coach or professor. Instead of smooth transitional sequences within scenes, I feel I am getting a list of items in the scene, lending it to a very robotic reading and lacking heart. For instance (now I am paraphrasing as I do not have my kindle handy), lines stating I had eggs, waffles, and sausage for breakfast with orange juice. How does this help the story line? How is this remotely interesting? Individual steps do not have to be told in the story, instead a nice flow of the story, again from a good editor and instruction in creative fiction writing will benefit this author. Spelling/incorrect word use is also prevalent throughout the book and the series. So if this irritates you as a reader, be prepared. I am still working my way through the second book, slowed down by poor flow of the story and word choices. For instance, the oh too common now seemingly interchangable use of: There, Their, They're; Who, Whose, Who's; Choice, Chose, Choose; Loose, Lose, Loses, Loss.

So in summary... the storyline/plot is excellent. But hopefully the writing style of the author continues to grow and improve.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Great young adult book. 28. Oktober 2011
Von Michele Patton - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
The Trouble with Spells by Lacey Weatherford is an enjoyable young adult paranormal romance. The characters of Vance and Portia are well written. I get a very clear sense of them while reading this book. As an adult, I am not a huge fan of the all consuming love between two teenagers. However, Lacey has written such a great story with very vivid characters that I really enjoyed their journey regardless. The plot and story, the characters and settings are all conveyed superbly. Set in Sedona AZ, Lacey paints a beautiful and accurate picture of the area. I have been the tourist at Slide Rock that didn't bring appropriate attire. I already purchased the second book, The Demon Kiss, and can't wait to start reading it.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Book 1 in a very fun series! 14. März 2011
Von Jackie Burris - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
As a very long time fan of the television show Charmed I particularly enjoyed the reading of "The Trouble With Spells", though it is not Adult orientated but Young Adult it was a fun book to sit down and enjoy for the day!
From the very first page the book captivates the reader, I fell in love with Vance Mangum almost as fast as Portia did! The fact that Portia is a witch is a family secret but once she is told and starts to explore her powers she soon proves to be much more adept instinctively than expected and as Vance is a very strong Warlock he helps her to learn much faster how to use her newfound powers.... Their romance is very beautiful to watch as it unfolds throughout the book, the threat from Vance's past makes them bond even stronger as each needs the other more and more as they spend time together... I found that the dramatic tension created by the author with all the twists and turns she treats us to in the trials that Portia and Vance face together kept me interested and reading as fast as possible to find out what happened next...
The final chapters were shocking and poignant and heartbreaking in so many ways but very well done and lead straight into the next installment of the series, I cannot wait to see what adventures befall the pair in The Demon Kiss (Of Witches and Warlocks Bk #2)!
I am very happy to have been given a chance to read this re-release and cannot believe it took me this long to do so as it was a truly wonderful emotionally rich book with two characters who made me sigh for my lost youth but gave me lots of joy when immersed in their world of magic and mayhem

5.0 von 5 Sternen FABULOUS! 22. Mai 2011
Von The Bookish Brunette - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
Gushing is so not enough for this book! I absolutely LOVED it! Hands down, it was a fabulous read. Vance and Portia completely blew me away. They were spellbinding in their undeniable connection! Their love literally jumped off the page, and don't even get me started on Vance *kill me twice...SWOON* There are entire fan pages dedicated to Vance- that's how scrumptious he is.

Vance is a very powerful warlock and the son of a very bad man... Vance has been on the run since he was 5 and if his father ever catches him...The consequences will be dire.

Vance sees Portia from across the school yard and knows she's his... One problem- he's not even allowed to TALK her because he's promised her father (the leader of their coven) that he will not have anything to do with her until she comes into her powers at 16.

Vance waits TWO YEARS for her and the day she turns 16...

Hmmm- I guess you'd better go read it!

This is an absolute MUST READ!

1.0 von 5 Sternen I don't care if it's free, don't waste your time. 2. Februar 2013
Von Jennifer Jones - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
Guys, are we reading the same book? The was the worst book I've read in a REALLY long time. And I've read some crap lately. I was going to say that it was like the author took the worst parts of Twilight, but then realized that that would be pretty much the whole book. So, I'll say that it's like the author took all the absolute worst parts of Twilight and made them 10x worse.

First, the characters are unbelievable. Portia's the perfect teenager, never doing anything wrong. Vance is the "tortured" bad boy who's not bad at all. He's also a perfect teenager. Portia's parents are conveniently absent 95% of the time and when they are there, they're beyond understanding, despite the fact that their daughter is spending 99% of her time with her new boyfriend and willingly says that she wants to sleep with him right now and that she'd die for him or follow him anywhere. Seriously?

Next, how many times do we need to hear Portia and Vance pledge their undying love to each other and talk about how much they love each other? Also, schizo much? One minute Vance is saying that he can't control himself around her, even in her ugly duck pjs, and making her not touch him and the next he's mauling her. Of course, only kisses, because these are the "perfect" teenagers, remember. They absolutely want to wait until they're older to get married and OF COURSE will only have sex after they're married. See, this is a TOTALLY realistic book. /roll eyes

Also, the plot. I'm going to warn you here that there's a spoiler for the end. So Portia is spending ALL her time with Vance and totally ignoring her friend. Obviously the friend's annoyed. When she finally gets around to spending some time with her friend, she uses her magic to "push" a bit of her feelings about Vance to her friend to show her how she feels. Right after this, the friend goes goth and starts trying to take Vance away from her and ignores all her friends. So, it would seem obvious that that Portia's "push" was why her friend went weird. Even if it was going to be set up as a fake reason you were supposed to believe, when really it was something else, that'd be fine. Except the author then ignored this obvious reason for the friend's behavior and didn't address it again, going for another explanation for the behavior. Huh?

So, I have no clue who all these people are that are reading this and thinking it's just the best book ever. All I can guess is that the author just has a REALLY LOT of friends who are making these reviews. Because this book was just REALLY awful. And I didn't even address the numerous typing and grammar errors!
