A dauntless young hero.
An army of brutal monsters.
An impossible quest.
Journey to the mountain ...
In an isolated valley, a small tribe of humans is dying from a terrible illness.
There are rumors, however, that the trolls of Troll Mountain, the valley's fearsome overlords, have found a cure for the illness: a fabulous elixir.
When his sister is struck down by the disease and his tribal leaders refuse to help him, an intrepid youth named Raf decides to defy his tribe and do the unthinkable: he will journey alone to Troll Mountain and steal the elixir from the dreaded trolls.
But to get to Troll Mountain, Raf will have to pass through dangerous swamps and haunting forests filled with wolves, hobgoblins and, worst of all, the ever-present danger of rogue trolls ...
The journey to the mountain has begun.

This is something different from Reilly, and a good start, though a little short, to his three part story. It will be interesting to see how the story progresses.

HASH(0x950a31bc) von 5 Sternen A departure for Reilly - but a good one. 30. April 2014
Von Jazztyke - Veröffentlicht auf
I wasn't sure what to expect with this, I didn't expect that Matthew Reilly would write something so different to any of his previous books; but It's a good read. Well written and engaging. This is just part 1 though. You really need to read all 3 books.

Basic premise comes from mythology in the guise of Trolls and Hobgoblins (with a forward explaining that the myth could possibly have started at the time when Homo Sapiens Sapiens were the 'new kids' on the block alongside Neanderthal and Cro Magnon Man were sharing a region of earth.

Our hero is Raf, a small but clever human from a tribe of "Northmen" suffering famine and plague because Trolls, who controlled the waterways had dammed the river back at the source and had also found a cure for the plague. When Raf's sister falls ill with the plague he embarks on a foolhardy adventure into the land of the Trolls to steal some.

This and the other 2 books tell the take of this adventure. Buy it, it's easy reading, truly.

Matthew Reilly continues to write interesting and engaging tales that surprise the reader. Having read all of the Jack West Jnr and Scarecrow tales I found The Tournament to be a brilliant and refreshing change of style and tone This new tale doesn't disappoint and while different to his others is certainly well worth a read.

I love everything Matthew Reilly writes. This was a great start to the story. I read it in one sitting and couldn't wait to start the next chapter.

What a wonderful story! I downloaded the first episode from the free list and it was long before I was back buying the second and third episodes. There are three quick read episodes: "Episode I: The Tyranny of the Trolls; Episode II: The Dark Kingdoms of the World; and Episode III: The Battle for Troll Mountain." The first episode introduces you to a dauntless young hero, an necessary but seemingly impossible quest, hobgoblins and a brutal army of trolls. Our hero's tribe is afflicted with an illness and the cure is on Troll Mountain. If our hero can survive the journey, he will have to face an army of monsters on the mountain. He picks up some very interesting companions and supporters along the way. in the second episode our hero and his companions must journey through the seemingly abandoned kingdom of the hobgloblins. The third episode is the battle for the cure on Troll Mountain. What is the cure and how would one recognized it? This is one among many questions you will ponder as you read this story. This story will have you thinking about contemporary issues like what makes a hero, what is the characteristic of a good society, what makes a good leader and how do we make sure our traditions are not based on untruths. However, you don't have to think about any of those things. It is just pure fun reading! It really is a great read. Troll Mountain is an action-fable that the whole family can enjoy. I downloaded it for my granddaughter so she could read it over Christmas break. There is an interesting interview with the author Matthew Reilly after the third episode. Download all three episodes or the novel as a whole. You will be glad you did. This is a story you will want to read over a cup of coffee (I actually had three). You will want to read it to your children and grandchildren. Enjoy!

Troll Mountain: Episode 1
Matthew Reilly

I have enjoyed Matthew Reilly’s books in the past, and so it was with some excitement that I started this book. It is however very different from his previous works.
This is a serialized very short story, with three volumes. Whether Reillys works are useable fast paced, this was slow. Where his works are usually suited to an adult audience, this was more for children.
The book tells the first episode of Raf who treks to Troll Mountain to steal an elixir to restore health to his tribespeople.
Although a good read, it is not what I would expected from Reilly.
