Über den Autor
Internationally acclaimed novelist Leon Uris ran away from home at age seventeen, a month after the attack on Pearl Harbor, to join the Marine Corps, and he served at Guadalcanal and Tarawa. His first novel, Battle Cry, was based on his own experiences in the Marines, which he revisited in his final novel, O'Hara's Choice. His other novels include the bestsellers Redemption, Trinity, Exodus, QB VII, and Topaz, among others. Leon Uris passed away in June 2003.

Es ist selbst für einen Liebhaber immer wieder erstaunlich, wie Uris packende Themen der modernen Geschichte sagenhaft spannend und menschlich bewegend verpackt. Zumal man doch dachte, dass des Autors Spezialgebiet Israel und der jüdische Freiheitskampf sei. Doch allen zweifelnden Fans sei versichert: auch die Irische Unabhängigkeitsbewegung stellt Uris gewohnt stilsicher in kraftvollen Szenen dar, die es dem Leser nicht ermöglichen, das Buch auch nur einmal beiseite zu legen, bevor er nicht auf der letzten Seite angekommen ist. Es ist die Geschichte des mutigen, jungen katholischen Rebells Conor Larkin, der sich im Kampf gegen die Engländer in ein hübsches, evangelisches Mädchen verliebt (typisch Uris). Oder umgekehrt? Wer Uris Romane liest, kennt die Antwort. Wer nicht, sollte sie lesen. Mein persönlicher Favorit ist jedoch nicht Trinity, sondern Mitla Pass.

Following the lives of an Irish Catholic family, the reader walks hand in hand as two boyhood friends grow up and learn what it means to be Irish and Catholic in a country where sectarianism rules. Conor Larkin works his way up from a countryside hut to infiltrate one of the most powerful Protestant ruling families in Northern Ireland all to help the cause of Irish Independence. Adventures and tribulations with his profession as a blacksmith, his season with a Belfast rugby team, a steamy love affair and a cross country gun running mission for the Irish Brotherhood keep the reader intrigued. Combining a thrilling and suspensful plot line with his deep and accurate account of Irish history is what really makes Uris' book stand out. This is an essential must read for anyone interested in Ireland and a great, although lengthy, novel that I highly recommend to all book lovers

I first read this book after seeing an interview between Larry King and Jerry Adams when I lived in Virginia. I was 16 then and fully enraptured by this story and the parallels I saw between its characters' struggles and my own as a teenager. I then read Redemtion and found it to be a great extension of the previous work, which I wished only to be longer. This book changed my life in a sense, or rather, initiated my migration to Western Europe to see the lands Uris described for myself. That was when I was 18, and I am 22 now living in Germany. It all started with reading Trinity, and that is very true. I am thankful to Uris, he made a contribution to my life that opened a whole new world to me. Cheers!

One of the best!
After a slow and somewhat awkward beginning, this superb novel takes off and never lets up. Great story and wonderful narrative power. If you want to read Uris, this is THE book!
