As with all Trailblazer hiking guides, the route maps in "Trekking in Ladakh include features not usually found on standard maps: walking times, directions, tricky junctions, places to stay and eat, and points of interest. These are not general-purpose maps but fully edited maps drawn by walkers for walkers.
This book is much more than a hiking-route guide--all the practical information hikers need is included, from planning their trip and getting to Ladakh from North America to arranging a trek (whatever their style of trekking, from a short backpacking trip to a fully-guided expedition). There are town guides to Leh (capital of Ladakh), Manali, and Delhi, including street plans, what to see, hotels, and restaurants for all budgets. There's also background information on history, culture, and language; plus comprehensive sections on health and mountain safety.
The guide is particularly strong on environmental preservation: minimum impact for maximum insight. Theauthor includes tips on how to travel with sensitivity and awareness through a fragile region.

This is in fact the only detailed account, well illustrated, for a traveler to Ladakh (do you know where is it?), a small Buddhist-Islam country which still preserves many of the traditions already spoiled in Nepal & Sikkim.
For a trekker, this is a precious vade mecum. For a learner, Charlie Loram is a most knowledgeable teacher on the subject.
This book is worth your time and money.
And, thank you Charlie for a superb book!

Best trekking guide to the region

This is the best TREKKING guidebook on Ladakh available, and is likely to remain valuable for many years as not much changes in the treks of this region, even if new roads are built and construction continues in the towns.
The format is small enough to fit in your pocket as you trek and the bound edition ensures durability. Practically all treks in the regions are described in details, and excellent hand drawn maps complete job.
You also get intro chapters on India and planning tips.
The LP book is a good complement, I would get both.

This is also a good guide book as is the Lonely Planet Guide to the Indian Himalayas. Both have very good information. Maps are better in LP.
