Transfer is a marketing masterpiece! Only in America and on the internet could this be possible!
The book and story itself is very disappointing. A futuristic look at America (set in the year 2008), the idea for this story is excellent, but this book just never gets it off the ground. Only 193 pages long (with double spaced paragraphs) it is a very quick read, and could have been a good story if time had been taken to develop some of the multitude of characters that were introduced, to develop a plot, and to give the story an ending. But the book appears to be a first draft, with editing errors, repeated sentences, and other common errors seen in a non-proofread first writing. A previous reviewer stated that people should stop whining about the "typos" but I believe they are too glaringly obvious to overlook!
But the true brainchild of this book is in the marketing. I have never heard of this book other than here at Amazon. And like a previous reviewer, I also came to know of this book after reading it mentioned in a review of another book. So one evening I did a little searching, and in just a short time, I found 48 books here on Amazon with reviews that basically say "book X is okay, but for an excellent book, buy Furland's Transfer!" If I found 48 in about 1 hour, I'm sure there are many, many more. What a brainchild Mr Furland has had! Self publish a book, have your family and friends post glowing reviews on it here and mention it in reviews of best sellers here at Amazon, and watch the orders pour in! One reviewer had reviewed 8 books, and ALL the reviews mentioned Transfer! What a brilliant idea! As I said, only in America!
As to the book, I recommend not wasting your money. There are many good futuristic books out there, including the currently popular "Left Behind" books. Oh, and yes, I did find reviews promoting "Transfer" in all of the "Left Behind" books, including the "Left Behind Kid's Series"! Give me a break!
