Having worked my way through a decent amount of BDSM Erotica, I decided my poor Kindle couldn't go without it either. This book kept popping into my recommendations, so I decided to purchase it.

For starters, the actual writing itself is choppy and amateurish. There are only a couple of paragraphs over three sentences long and the spacing is atrocious. The language used is boring and stale, with very little spice or words added for flavor. The story itself tends to jump from one point to another with very little thought in between. Merely a few plot points to get back to the meat and gristle, the sex scenes.

And onto those...As a submissive myself for over ten years, I was appalled at the scenes. While arousing for the content, the way they were arrived at and what happened in between was bordering on Rice's sexual play lands where rules don't exist at all. For starters, she's ordered into a cage in the backroom of their bookstore. No agreement, no talk of what the whole scene is about, and she's left there, completely alone, brand new and helpless. The trend continues with the rest of the scenes, very little consent is given and much is taken. As for the anal scene, I'm sorry...but that's something you work up to, not for first timers. The same is completely and utterly true about the caning. No matter how experienced the dominant, very very few would trust a cane to a fresh submissive. It's too severe.

The only positive little point this book has to offer is that the club scene is pretty much as described. Quite controlled, polite and helpful. This is the only reason this book even received 3 stars.

If you're looking for a short novel to arouse you, this one will do adequately. If you're looking for something to arouse and possibly give you ideas, go elsewhere. It seems like Anne O'Connell has done nothing more than decided to mine the gold that is the bdsm erotica section by scanning a few pages on google for her sources.

I read a lot of BDSM fiction and I found this to be among the worst. I couldn't decide if I should focus on the absence of emotion in the characters, the author's choppy and clinical (non-fictional) writing style, the lack of true character development, or the realism (or lack thereof). This review will examine the latter. It is unrealistic on several levels.

First, the character's actions and decisions were not in line with their personalities and experience levels. In short, what they did was unbelievable. I literally found myself appalled at times but not by the action, rather by the incongruous nature of it. Second, I felt like the author was walking through a BDSM checklist and conjuring scenes to incorporate all the props from it. Cage...check, flogger...check, spreader, ballgag, cross, whipping bench...check, check, check, check. And that was all on the first date with a first-timer. Totally unbelievable.

I felt this was insulting to people in the lifestyle and dangerous for those experimenting. Anal sex requires lubrication & Doms are not trained therapists (nor do they want to be). The anal action in this book wasn't only unbelievable, it would cause serious injury.

Even by the end of the story I never warmed up to the characters. This was partly because they were so stereotypical and partly because they didn't feel anything. Which may also be part of the reason why I got absolutely nothing from the sex scenes.

I gave this two stars because it was cheap. It cost about as much as a medium latte and it was slightly more interesting.

I was selected as a beta reader for this story (you can sometimes get this opportunity if you find and friend indie and small press authors on facebook for anyone wondering) so I thought I would review it. I liked the three Anne O'Connell books I read before this one, but this one was more fun. First, this one is standard length for your average erotica novel whereas her previous novellas ranged from short to medium length novellas. The characters are well developed and three-dimensional and while the hot scenes Anne O'Connell is known for in her previous books are still there, this book has more story amidst the sex. Lots of canes, whips, bondage, anal, and cages. Yes, cages. This story is basically about a woman who starts working at a book store owned by two single Doms. They peg her for a sub right off and, well, her curiosity gets the best of her, she goes into a locked room she wasn't supposed to go into, she gets caught and she's punished for it. All this time, she's secretly pining for her boss Eric, the younger of the two men. Even after being punished she keeps her date with Eric and "things" go from there. Aside from this, she's just broken up with her boring, bad in bed boyfriend, who's a real jerk. Eric has an ex-girlfriend who is trying to get him back. Amy's parents' house is burnt down and it becomes a case of arson and attempted murder so there's a suspense/mystery element to the story too. Needless to say you're going to love the characters and all of us beta's loved the story but wanted to know more Brad and Kali and we were told they have their own book coming out late this year or early next. So I'm really looking forward to that. If you like graphic bdsm erotica with a hint of romance and a story, this book might be right up your ally.
