The Title Tells It All 6. Juni 2011
Von Rebekah Rae - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Von Amazon bestätigter Kauf
I would like to think that I am capable of suspending my skepticism and enjoy a good escapist romance, and that was how I felt the majority of this book. Unfortunately by the end things just got way too out of hand for me to continuing making excuses for the story. The story was somewhat cute but the title should have been a major indication of the style of writing. If the author seriously couldn't come up with anything more creative for a title other than Touchdowns and Potions, you really can't have the highest expectations for the writing and plot line (my mistake), because that was literally what the story was, a football player and a girl with a love potion.

This could have been a interesting story and I do commend the author for avoiding a lot of cliches but there was little to no character development and within a span of a few pages (spoiler alert) everything is perfect, then Andy is a liar, Jenna conveniently has a voicemail for a job in Texas, airline ticket provide and all (IN A MESSAGE BEFORE THEY EVER SPOKE WITH HER) so she's off to the airport, and then Andy's slimy football teammate is trying to rape Jenna in the middle of no where. If you're reading this a pulling a double take, yeah that just happened.

For the price it's not bad and if you can suspend your disbelief, go for it, but the writing was mediocre and repetitive and characters were incredibly one demensional. The only semi-redeeming element was Jenna's relationship with the "meddling older woman" but even that is pretty ridiculous. Sorry to burst anyone's bubble but I was definitely not loving this book.

Cliche and Flat 14. Juni 2011
Von Amanda N Johnson - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

I was surprised by the many positive reviews. I consider myself a much more forgiving reader than most, but even I couldn't get behind this book.

The plot basically revolves around this real estate agent who makes herself a martyr, living sparsely and working two jobs because she wants to help others. She meets a millionaire quarterback and falls in love. Unfortunately, a little old lady with a crazy fruit hat puts a vanilla love potion onto the real estate agent, which won't wear off until a week later. Pandemonium ensues.

The author lost me early on with the setting of her book. I love reading things about the wonderful state of Nebraska. This book, however, was all off. For one, why set it in Lincoln and make up a pro football team instead of setting it in Kansas City or a nearby city that actually has a pro team. It just doesn't make sense in Nebraska, if the state did have a pro team (even with a dumb name like the one the author gives this pro team) that even someone who hates sports would be completely ignorant of a celebrity quarterback. She might not know what he looks like, but she'd have to recognize the name. Especially in a job where she has to interact with people and make small talk.

In another part of the book the author talks about someone buying a summer home in Lincoln to "escape the heat." I think most people who set their stories in Nebraska are from there. But, seriously? In no way would I voluntarily buy a million dollar house in Nebraska with the intent of going there to get away from the heat. My "winter" house would have to be in the Sahara Desert.

The characters were flat and fell into the cliché of romance characters. The girl who is too self sacrificing. The guy who is too forgiving of the annoying things the girl does. There wasn't nearly enough build up and tension between them for my tastes. I didn't find the dialogue particularly amusing, and the amusement that could come from the absolutely ridiculous situations the girl keeps finding herself in is completely lost in the loss of realism. I read some outlandish books, but they make me believe that these events could happen to the characters. This book did not do so.

It's only 99 cents. But, I would consider looking at some other 99 cent romances on Amazon. There are many better ones.

Love conquers all 9. März 2011

Jenna Steele is a woman with a mission. "Time is money", is her motto. Enter Andy McKnight, football quarterback trying to sell his house, through Jenna's realty office. Add a love potion, and you are in for a thrilling ride. This may be Ms Anderson's first book, but it's great. It's got romance, comedy, danger, and yet is a "clean" book.
