When PC Andy Davidson arrests a young girl for shoplifting, he thinks it's going to be a routine case. That is, until he sees that she is carrying a gun. The girl is soaking wet, covered in mud, and the weapon is like nothing he's ever seen before. He knows that this is a case for Torchwood...The team discovers that the girl is called Freda, but can find out nothing else. Yet when she speaks, it's a strange mix of English and Icelandic,but with a Cardiff accent. While Jack and Ianto check out the girl's weapon and her blood sample at the Hub, Gwen and PC Andy take Freda to a safe house. But when Jack calls with the results - and Freda goes on the run - PC Andy finds his world turning upside down. Written specially for BBC Radio by Anita Sullivan, "Asylum" stars John Barrowman as Captain Jack Harkness, Eve Myles as Gwen Cooper, Gareth David-Lloyd as Ianto Jones and Tom Price as PC Andy Davidson. Dieses Stück ist angesiedelt nach der 2. Staffel, beim ersten Hören hatte ich noch Probleme, die Charaktere auseinander zu halten, was beim 2. Durchgang aber dann perfekt klappte. Ich bin einfach ein wenig "eingerostet". Hat man aber den Zugang, dann befindet man sich inmitten einer tollen Torchwood-Folge. Gewöhnungsbedürftig ist vielleicht, dass Andi, Gwen's ex-Kollege bei der Polizei, eine größere Rolle, als gewöhnlich, übernommen hat. Alles in allem einfach super!

Since the finale of The children of Earth(and whose bright idea was it to do away with almost everyone?), this is the best way to enjoy your favorite Torchwood characters, doing what they do best- dealing with alien artifacts
and looking out for each other. Good quality audio with all your favorite voices.

Another nice episode for between season 2 and 3 (no spoilers)

Five radio plays were aired on the BBC following season 2 and the Children of Earth miniseries, a.k.a. season 3. They feature the voices of the original cast (as it was at the end of season 2), the original music, similar sound effects, excellent performances, good stories, and high production values. While it fits well between season 2 and 3, and the cast makes sense for that period, you can enjoy this story any time after season 2. I recommend completing season 2 first to avoid spoiling events of that season.
This is the second in the series. A mysterious teenage girl is found shoplifting, and she has an unusual gun with properties not found in guns on earth. She has a Cardiff accent, but uses unusual slang. They eventually figure her out, but she presents an unusual problem for the team, and they don't know what to do with her. The story lets Gwen shine, and unusually, Andy (her partner from the police force) has is in the foreground and shows he has a heart. The story is touching and I would say unusual, though I find that Torchwood stories tend not to follow a pattern and each tend to be unique.
Unlike the first radio play CD, there are no extras (interviewing the cast about Torchwood etc), but it is worth a listen. Your library may have it.
