5.0 von 5 Sternen Spannend, mitreißend - einfach gut. 6. Februar 2013
Von Danny D.
Format:Taschenbuch|Verifizierter Kauf

5.0 von 5 Sternen Edge-of-your-seat and factual 24. Januar 2012
Von Carol Lynn Featherstone - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
I picked this book up and finished it within 2 days. Clancy really benefits this time from George Galdorisi and Dick Crouch's service in the military, and it shows. Crouch was a top SEAL himself, and Galdorisi (an accomplished author and great writer in his own right) clearly spent a ton of time with SEALs during his storied military career. The little details that Crouch and Galdorisi provide make this story very believable and lend the storyline a lot of credence. The subtle facts here make this Clancy's best.

A lot of military novels have a James Bond-esque air of unbelievability about them, which makes for nice fluff reading on a plane but not for real-life subject matter and stories. Not so this one-- the reader can see how this storyline could unfold at any time. In fact, it probably already has, many times. The biggest beef that I have with Act of Valor is that we will never know just how close this 'novel' is to the truth!

Pick this up -- for your family, your friends, male or female, young or old, blue-stater or red-stater, it doesn't matter. Everyone who reads it will be as enthralled as I was. Spend some time thinking about what our military brethren go through (even in peacetime), and buy one of them a beer next time you see them in uniform. This book is awesome, and I don't read a whole lot of books like this one. I look forward to seeing many more collaborative novels between these three fine authors.

5.0 von 5 Sternen See the Movie; then Read the Book 27. Februar 2012
Von J. Crivelli - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch|Verifizierter Kauf
I'd been reading about Act of Valor for months.
Since I'm a former Special Ops Plans Officer, I was very interested.

I learned about the book in an article by Dick Couch published in Naval History Magazine, February 2012 (Volume 26, Number 1).

Captain Couch, USN(Retired), was the highest ranking reserve SEAL at the time of his retirement. He is one of the preeminent SOF historians.

Since I've read all of Dick Couch's book, I had to get this one. He adds background and detail to the movie.

BTW - I saw the movie on Sunday and enjoyed it greatly. Most authentic since Blackhawk Down.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Unbelievable book about Those who watch our back. 19. Januar 2012
Von Ex Op - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
I purchased this book 3 days ago and have just finished reading it - for the SECOND time! Clancy's books are usually fantastic but this one, coming on the heals of the Navy Seals mission to eliminate OBL, takes his novels to another level. This book sounds and reads so real about what is going on right now with America's southern border and extending into Central and South America. I understand that the movie is to be released in February and starring real USN SpecOps Personnel - I hope it is half as good as the book as I am sure it will be. As for Clancy and his knack of getting 'things' right - look to the South, America - this is where the war is going to come from.

5.0 von 5 Sternen excellent read 19. Januar 2012

I picked up this book a few days ago and wasn't able to put it down until I finished. The writing and the story were both phenomenal. I highly recommend to anyone wanting to immerse themselves into a story line that details the heroic lives of the Navy Seals. I hope the movie is as good as the book.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Terrific insight 8. Februar 2012
Von kwelch - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

We finally, after 10 years, have specific insight into a preeminent aspect of what has kept America safe since 9/11. Although fiction, each of the vignettes in Act of Valor is based on an actual operation and accurately depicts the tactics, equipment, intelligence and communications that allows America to bring appropriate force, sometimes incredible force, to any point on the planet. Additionally, this book accurately characterizes the operators that have total focus on the mission, but are also family men with wives and small children who also make amazing sacrifices to keep America safe, making do without their father's guidance and their husband's love for extended periods of time. The threat that their men may not return is a fear that the families must live with daily. Their loved one is literally on the tip of the spear. At the end of the movie there is a very powerful credit, listing all the SEAL operators who have lost their lives in the line of duty, keeping us safe, since 9/11.

A must read for all Americans! George Orwell's quote, "We sleep safe in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would do us harm." has never been more true!!

Live your life that the fear of death never enters your heart. Trouble no one about his religion. Respect others in their views and demand they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life, and beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and of service to your people. When your time comes to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home. "e;
