With an eye towards the future of software design, Tog discusses many of the facets of software production. Most of the issues discussed revolve around usability and software quality - items sadly missing in many software products today. The book uses Sun's "Starfire" project as a model for software design. "Starfire" is their vision of where software will be in 5 to 10 years and provides many insights into how things should be done today so we can prepare for tomorrow. "Starfire" and "Tog on Design" aren't a set of guidelines, a methodology, or even a model of UI design. They're more than that. It's a state of mind. The state we should be in to produce great software. Get this book and read it for what it is. The ideas it contains really get under your skin. Perhaps this book should really be titled "Zen and the Art of Software Design."
