Mehr über den Autor

Michelle received her undergraduate degree in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology in 1993 and a masters degree in Communication Disorders in 1995 from the University of Texas at Dallas. She completed her internship at Medical City Dallas Hospital and earned her Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) in 1996 from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). Her most memorable case of therapy involved "Kay" - a two year old found at the bottom of a swimming pool. Seeing the dedication of Kay's mother to the recovery of her severely brain damaged child, Michelle developed an early and profound respect for all Mothers. In 2000, Michelle took a break from working to start her own family, having three girls in five years. Immersed in all things "Mommy", Michelle decided to write a book dedicated to people just like her: confused, amazed, exhausted, guilt-ridden, and baffled on what-to-do-next. Journey with her as she writes with empathy ("..while I write this very sentence, my child is trying to tear her crib apart in a raging, screaming, fit..."), dedication to getting tough ("Throw that guilt monster out the window, girlfriend!") and a professional eye for what really works in toddler discipline. Teaming up with Dr. Rita Chandler, a Nationally Certified expert in behavior, Michelle decodes the technical aspect of steps to improving problem behavior, but stays devoted to teaching discipline techniques with the emotions of caregivers in mind.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Great info and the perfect length for a busy parent 1. September 2010

As the mother of 3 young children, I can't recommend this book enough! It's easy to read and filled with useful advice on how to raise a happy, well-behaved toddler. The author's anecdotes are funny and memorable without being long-winded.

Things I Love About This Book
-------------------------------
1. Great advice on communicating: The author spends a good chunk of time on how to communicate with your toddler - talking, signing, etc. She gives specific examples of what you can do and say. Your kids can't behave well if they can't understand what you expect of them.

2. It's short and concise. Who has time to read a 300-page book on toddler discipline? This book covers the important stuff in just 7 short chapters.

3. It's well organized. The first chapter covers the author's basic approach to tackling issues. I know this sounds obvious but...READ Chapter 1 FIRST. Then you can bop around. There are handy lists and bulleted points for those of you who like to skim.

4. Humorous style - easy to read.

5. The author has what I feel is a balanced approach. Examples:

* Has advice on both positive and negative reinforcement, and when best to use them.
* She advocates learning sign language but says 5-10 words will give you the basics to communicate with a 1-year old. No need to memorize an entire dictionary of American Sign Language.

I would highly recommend this book to both new parents and "seasoned veterans". For new parents, you won't find a better book on the basics of fostering good behavior in toddlers. For experienced parents, you'll be surprised at how this book will help you do things even better.

This book is a concise overview for Toddler discipline, with awesome specific examples. Table of contents is helpful for reference, and the book includes every possible scenario with toddlers. Funny, and light-hearted with what can be serious dilemnas. All-around very helpful and easy read.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Good nuggets but needed a critical editor 6. September 2011

This has some very good nuggets of information, but it seems to be written in language appropriate for a third-rate mom's blog. For a book about calming down and paying attention to your child, this book is written in a highly emotive style. That is, there are way too many exclamation marks, words in ALLCAPS or underlined, and phrases like "Heavens alive, girlfriend," "Holy cow, CHANGE IT!" and "Right??!!" Skip this one and go with another book if this writing style irks you as much as it irks me.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Stop calling me "sister" and "girlfriend" 2. März 2013
Von wymom29 - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
Okay so I actually found this book to be a really great, to the point, solution based book. What I did not care for was the ultra-casual way the writer kept addressing the (assumed female) reader as "sister", "honey" and "girlfriend". I found it distracting from the very good parenting advice she was giving. I understand the author was probably trying to be relatable, but I don't want to be addressed while i'm reading this book like you're my best friend from college. She should just stick to the basics. Also why does she assume that the reader is a woman. My husband read this book as well, and he didn't understand why anyone would think that women are the ONLY ones who ever read parenting books. There are many stay at home dads, grandfathers, and other male caretakers who would read a book such as this too.
