Kurzbeschreibung
The only way to grasp the real story involving the sinking of RMS Titanic is to read the actual accounts and testimonies of those that survived and those that built and owned her. In doing so, it is like travelling back in time to the moment of the event to hear the stories and accounts given by the survivors and experts while the matter was fresh in their minds. On Thursday, 2nd May 1912, a mere 17 days following the sinking of RMS TITANIC - proceedings were initiated in England by the Wreck Commissioners' Court; SCOTTISH HALL - BUCKINGHAM GATE by THE RIGHT HONORABLE LORD MERSEY; Wreck Commissioner of the United Kingdom - with REAR ADMIRAL THE HONORABLE S. A. GOUGH-CALTHORPE, C.V.O., R.N.; CAPTAIN A. W. CLARKE, COMMANDER F. C. A. LYON, R.N.R., PROFESSOR J. H. BILES, LL.D., D.Sc., MR. E. C. CHASTON, R.N.R. Acting as Assessors. The purpose was to conduct A FORMAL INVESTIGATION as ORDERED BY THE BOARD OF TRADE INTO THE LOSS OF THE S. S. (RMS) "TITANIC." This book contains a Preface by Lawrence Beesley, a survivor of the disaster, followed by the Wreck Commissions entire proceedings as [Transcribed form the Shorthand Notes of W. B. Gurney & Sons, 26, Abingdon Street, Westminster, S. W.] This book contains more than 2,000 pages of formatted material from nearly 1,000 original pages of hearing transcripts. The editor of this document is also the first to offer the entire U.S. Senate Hearing transcripts in Kindle format, also available on Amazon.com. The U.S. Senate hearings were conducted immediately upon the arrival of Carpathia at New York Harbor, also prior to the hearings documented in this book. The United States was able to conduct the first hearing simply because the survivors and witnesses were brought to the USA immediately following the disaster. The British had to wait until the witnesses and survivors arrived back in England to conduct their hearing. It is interesting to note that the U.S. Senate could not assess liability against the ship's owners or operators. Existing maritime law limited damages to unreasonable levels that could only be levied by the nation whose flag Titanic carried; in this case England; hence the importance of conducting this British Inquiry. One promise is made, even as long as this eBook is (the hearings lasted nearly 40 days); you will find it hard to put down. The testimony is exciting and surprising. You will be amazed at the discoveries that await you in these transcripts. Sincerely, Guy Foster (Editor and co-author of this Kindle Edition)
