This tarot deck is somewhat different from other decks I have seen. The artwork is quite beautiful; many cards have pastel themes and then brighter areas of blue, orange, or green. Frequently, the coloration of a card provides a quick cue as to the card's meaning (for example, the Tower is ominously orange and black, and the Sun is a warm yellow). Particularly in the case of the Major Arcana cards, the interpretation is evident by just looking at the artwork. There is a distinctively Egyptian look to the cards, and a great deal of animal imagery (particularly snakes) as well as some floral imagery.
Some of the traditional names of cards in the Major Arcana have been changed (Justice becomes Adjustment, Strength becomes Lust, etc.). I feel that some of these changes are more appropriate than others, but that is my own reaction and what is important is that you choose a deck that's right for you.
One criticism is that the artwork on the numbered cards of the Minor Arcana offers few clues as to the meaning of the cards (if this is important to you, a deck such as the Rider-Waite deck may be more appropriate). However, at the bottom of each numbered card is one word which summarizes its meaning.
Also in the Minor Arcana, names of court cards have been altered somewhat. Kings become Knights, Knights become Princes, and Pages become Princesses. This adds gender balance to the deck.
Another thing to consider when thinking about buying this deck is your level of knowledge about the tarot and the occult in general. There is a lot of symbolism in this deck; each Major Arcana card also includes the Hebrew letter and the astrological symbol that are connected with the card.

I find the Crowley deck consistently accurate for tarot readings. These cards are not like the Rider Waite (another fine deck) but they offer very valuable information that the Rider Waite deck does not seem equipped to handle. For example, the Crowley deck is fabulous for Pagans, since its themes combine many Spiritual disciplines such as Alchemy, the Cabala, Magic, Astrology, Celt traditions and Mediterranean influences. The Crowley deck can therefore be interpretated across a broad spectrum of religions. Additionally, Crowley was not shy about sexual matters and his deck reflects his deep understanding of sexual nuances, which is something that the Rider Waite seems to avoid. The suit of Wands is depicted in connection with passion in a very emphasized manner and it expresses the fire and exuberance of the sex drive as a represenation of essential passion. Crowley emphasizes the dialectical nature between passion/temperance, masculine/feminine, inner/outer expression, subjective/universal themes. Crowley also represents the gender divide in very comprehensive manner. Crowley offers a princess, a prince, a queen and a knight, which corresponds to the Rider's page, knight, queen and king respectively. An absolutely excellent companion book/manual for these cards is written by German author Hajo Banzhaf (available in English) who is an internationally acclaimed astrologist and tarot reader/interpreter. I find him indespensible, and far more lucid than Crowley, since his intereptations for the Crowley deck (and one of his books offers a Crowley/Waite comparison interpretation for each card) are straight foreward and right on the mark. The Crowley deck is an artistic masterpiece and its designs are very lovely. This is one deck that I highly recommend!

The Rider-Waite deck, one of the most popular Tarot decks, was designed by a member of the Golden Dawn, but watered down to avoid giving away that Order's symbolism. Crowley was another member of the Golden Dawn, and at one time favored to succeed its founder, and when he founded his own magickal order he put his whole heart and arte into designing this deck. No tricks, nothing held back.
The Book of Thoth, Crowley's commentary on his deck, is awfully dense for a beginner or for someone just interested in Tarot and not the occult underpinnings. On the other hand, the little cheat sheet booklet that comes with the deck is pretty good, and probably all you need to start doing readings.
As for doing readings, treat the deck in the same way you would treat a friend - with respect, casually when appropriate, never carelessly, always with great personality.
Owned at least 20 decks before, and always return to this one.

I wasn't too sure if this version has 3 Magus cards when i bought it off Amazon, and spent a bunch of time forum trawling, trying to work out versions and chasing ISBNs.

It just arrived in the post and on big lettering on the front:
"INCLUDES THREE VERSIONS OF THE MAGUS CARDS"
:P

The colors also seem good. I borrowed a friends older, albeit well worn deck, for a year and those colors seemed much darker. This deck seems to have much better contrast, can actually see the colors. At first glance the symbols and meaning stand out more because of this. Yes, the palette it does seem to be more pasel, heading towards "washed out" but at least i can see colours now, whereas the other version was mostly darker blobs.

Size seems good too, slightly bigger than your standard (bicycle) playing card.

Nice packaging. Two boxes: a small one to hold the cards and mini booklet, the other to contain the big "Ancient 10-Card" (ie Celtic Cross) playmat/guide and the cardbox.

Time and readings will be the real test. But right now, Happy Happy.
