Kurzbeschreibung

From the author of Highway to Vengeance comes a new supernatural thriller of mythical proportions:

A former black ops agent turned vigilante-for-hire, Scott Logan does the dirty work that most people are unable or unwilling to do. Known by some as Thirteen due to the tattoo on the back of his neck, he is a man with finely-honed skills and a past shrouded in mystery and confusion.

Johnny Torrance is a ten-year-old boy with mental capabilities that have landed him in a secret government compound known as The Farm. Not only can Johnny perform incredible feats using only his mind, for years he's had dreams that span the entirety of human history, dreams about a warrior of many faces, a man whose only consistent feature is the number thirteen tattooed on the back of his neck.

When Logan is asked by an enigmatic old friend to rescue Johnny from The Farm, he accepts without hesitation, completely unaware that his tattoo signifies far more than just the number thirteen.

Once united, Logan and Johnny must evade Logan’s former black ops team and a far more insidious enemy long enough to understand what they truly are; warriors beyond the boundaries of humanity, each with specific roles in the shadow war that dominates our world.

Combining the elements of a supernatural novel with the hardboiled style of a modern crime novel, Thirteen is more than just a thriller. It is an exploration of what it means to be human and the first stage of a journey that will bring our civilization face-to-face with Armageddon.

Thirteen is a 97,000 word novel.

If you read one... 20. Februar 2012

I wish I had not read Blood Money first. Both books taken by themselves are not bad, when you read both of them, it gets irritating. The author has basically cut and pasted several scenarios, character descriptions, lines, etc from one book into the other. Same overarching plot. I know it's difficult to write a book, and it's not wrong to re-use your own work, but, wow, I would have changed more of what I was pasting in. While reading, I could guess the "escape" route and methodology that was going to be used, that one character would reappear and get shot to death etc.

I like the authors style (my kind of humor), and I enjoy his characters. It was just massively distracting to know how a scene was going to play out, and even the dialogue that was going to be used. An editor familiar with the authors work should have caught the overlap between the two novels.

I think this author has real potential and I will buy additional works to support the indie author genre. Please just change things up a little bit more.

Read in two days. 17. Mai 2012

Once I started reading, I just had to keep going. The person I would call the main character, Logan, should not be a likeable person and yet I really cared about him. You learn more and more about him but it takes the entire book for a full picture to emerge. He has some memorable friends that help him even though he does not like to ask for help. The next character that I liked was Johnny, a captive 10 year old, who is ultra talented psychically but also strange and sad. I don't feel that his personal story is told as well as Logan's. I kept asking myself where are his emotions. Yet, there is a definite link between these two characters. The two interfering heavy duties in the life of Logan and Johnny do not come to complete light until the end. Springer is very good on most of his character descriptions and seem to know the mindset of the military mind-especially the black-ops types. You feel you know these people and their motivations so I would say that the book is first a suspense tale but also a character driven story. The reason I did not give it 5 stars is that it leaves too many unanswered questions about many of the characters and also about the plot in general. Personally, I did not care for the ending.
