Lies destroyed their past—will the truth end their chance at a future?

Sara Jamison has no clue where Mike Andrews’ been all these years, but she knows where she’s been—busy raising their son. Two weeks after he accused her of cheating and disappeared from her life, Sara discovered she was something she never expected to be—an unwed pregnant teenager.

But with the love and support of her annoyingly alpha-male family, she’s managed to make a good life for herself and her young son. She even owns her own business, Sara’s Bakery, which she’s built into a thriving success. Sure, she works too hard and her social life is nonexistent, but for the most part, she’s content.

Until the day Detective Mike Andrews walks into her bakery and back into her life…

Of all the bakeries in town...

Sara blew out a frustrated breath as she faced the troublesome machine. “Couldn’t have waited ‘til Monday, could you? Rotten appliance.”

Ten minutes later, she smiled with triumphant satisfaction as the sweet aroma of vanilla coffee filled the bakery. First thing Monday morning, she’d call the dealer and ask when they could deliver a new machine.

The bell above the door chimed. “See, Amanda. You just have to show this devil who’s bos...” The words died on her lips.

Legs braced apart, a disdainful scowl curling his lip, Mike stood just inside the door. Her heart lurched and her breath caught.

This isn’t happening, this isn’t happening, this isn’t happening—

“You sound just like that arrogant brother of yours.”

Deep breath, compose yourself. “I’ll take that as a compliment.” She narrowed her eyes. “Now get the hell out.”

“You need to work on your people skills, lady.” He strode forward and stopped in front of the display case, looking around in obvious astonishment. “Well, I’ll be dipped. When I saw the Sara’s Bakery sign, I said to myself, no friggin’ way. But morbid curiosity got the better of me. So a bakery, huh? Not much of a surprise, really—”

“What do you want, Mike?”

He turned toward her and she finally got a good look at the side of his face. My God, had Garrett done that? She couldn’t help feeling a measure of satisfaction. Oh, who was she kidding? She hoped it hurt like hell.

He must have realized where her gaze rested because he reached up and fingered his jaw. “Don’t get too excited, he sucker-punched me.” He leaned over and tapped the glass above her jumbo chocolate muffins. “I’ll take one of those and a large coffee. Regular, not that flavored crap.”

With an angry huff, she stalked over to pour him a cup. Why did he have to look so damn good? Was it too much to ask for a receding hairline and a donut around the middle?

He wore his thick, blue-black hair shorter than he used to, which only made the resemblance between him and Ethan more pronounced. He’d put on a good twenty-five to thirty pounds of solid muscle as the black T-shirt stretched tautly over his chest could attest to. And those eyes—cobalt and incredible—had continued to haunt her over the years.

Ethan’s were the exact same color.

Über den Autor und weitere Mitwirkende

USA Today Bestselling author Donna Marie Rogers inherited her love of romance from her mother. Romance novels, soap operas, Little House on the Prairie—her mother loved them all. And though it wasn’t until years later Donna would come to understand her mother’s fascination with Charles Ingalls, Donna’s love of the romance genre is every bit as all-consuming. Donna’s books have received rave reviews and finaled in numerous contests, including the Aspen Gold, EPIC Awards, and her chapter’s own Write Touch Readers Award. A Chicago native, Donna now lives in beautiful Northeast Wisconsin with her husband and children. She’s an avid gardener and home-canner, as well as an admitted reality TV junkie. Her passion to read is only exceeded by her passion to write, so when she’s not doing the wife and mother thing, you can usually find her sitting at the computer, creating exciting, memorable characters, fresh new worlds, and always happily-ever-afters.

Inhalt:

There's Only Been You
Meant To Be
Foolish Pride

An ordinary romance. There is nothing unexpected and no mysteries. I find it boring. But if you read before sleeping it is a good read. It doesn't take much time to fall asleep.

HASH(0x98112764) von 5 Sternen It's a Keeper 20. März 2009
Von M. J. Scheibl - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch Verifizierter Kauf
This book is a keeper. It warms the reader's heart with its charm. Sara Jamison is a real life heroine, a single mom, surrounded by family men and busy making her bakery a success. All this while raising her son Ethan who is such a typical boy, he pulls at any mother's heartstrings.

Then Mike, Ethan's father, re-enters Sara's life and she's finds herself with much going on in her more her life than making dinners, keeping her brothers and uncle in line, and keeping the delicious baked goods flowing at her bakery. Worse, she realizes she is still attracted to him, even when he was the one who just disappeared from her life. That situation really stirs up the excitement in everyone's life.

Donna Marie Rogers is a writer who makes the real lives of real characters so interesting the reader doesn't want to watch reality TV. What we'd really like is for our real world to have the happy ending along with the humor and the highlights that make this book such a delightful read. Definitely one for the keeper shelf. I can't wait for her to write about one of her brothers.

HASH(0x98112b90) von 5 Sternen Good Read 7. Juli 2013
Von The eBook Investigator - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

I really did enjoy this book and it was a fairly light and easy read. The story line was one I have read many times, but I never tire of it.

If you are wondering why I only gave a book I enjoyed three stars, here are my reasons:
1. I was very much put off by Sara's constant whining. A little at first....okay, but I thought it would never end, lasting 3/4ths of the book which caused me to considered not finishing it.
2. Sara selfishly placed all of the blame of Mike running away squarely on his shoulders alone. She took no responsibility, even though she believed he had impregnated and beat another woman, which he had not. It was okay for her to believe it, but not okay for him to believe what he witnessed on the video. She was completely unfair to him and seemed to only skate around the edges of reality.
3. She claims she did not tell him about his son because she did not know where he was (as if her brother would have let her.) Her brother is a detective. He could have found Mike for her if he had tried but obviously he didn't. Unrealistic.
4. Not thrilled with the F-bombs and the many instances of taking God's name in vain.

I do plan to read the other books in the Jamison series and I will know what to expect as far as language, taking the name of the Lord's name in vain and will not complain about it. I will just skip over it.

HASH(0x98112db8) von 5 Sternen Too slow 12. Juli 2013
Von JTC - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verifizierter Kauf
This story was much too slow and the 8 year misunderstanding was just annoying. I couldn't get past the fifth chapter. Sarah's brother, who is a cop, gets drunk and beats Mike up the day he gets back. What kind of role model is that? No one ever gives him the benefit of the doubt and her entire family keeps the knowledge of his son from him. I could not garner any feelings of sympathy for Sarah and that is very unusual for me. Not an engaging romance for me at all.

HASH(0x98112cb0) von 5 Sternen I won't finish this book... 9. Juli 2013
Von Vickie in Virginia - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verifizierter Kauf
I'm a middle aged female with a child. Surprisingly this book touched a nerve. I'm not that far into the book when I realize that Sara never even told Mike she was pregnant. And now she and her family are all in a panic so Mike doesn't find out. I'm thinking: what kind of person does that? It hasn't been explained (yet) why Mike left town, but it doesn't seem to be the result of him being violent or abusive, so why would Sara not let him know he has a son? I am really appalled. Her whole family is apparently in on it, and for that reason, I just can't keep reading this. Yeah I know it's just fiction but it's bothering me to the point that I have decided not to finish the book.

HASH(0x98112efc) von 5 Sternen Charming characters 28. August 2011
Von Helen J. - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verifizierter Kauf
This first book in the series about the Jamison Family is a sweet second-chance-at-love story with appealing leads. The suspense element spices up the story and adds to the conflict, but the real prize in this story is the family dynamic. The characters that make up the Jamison family are charmers and the little boy is a delight. Not everyone can write children that act like real kids, but this author does that very well.
