Kurzbeschreibung

1. Oktober 2010
In their second adventure, Bernie and Chet are called on to investigate threats made against an unlikely target - a pretty and pampered show dog called Princess. What seems like a lark of a case turns serious when Princess and her owner are abducted. To make matters worse, Bernie's on-again-off-again girlfriend, reporter Susie Sanchez, disappears too. When Chet is separated from Bernie, he's on his own to put the pieces together, find his way home, and save the day.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Bernie and Chet Nr. 2 - A Princess in Distress!!! 19. April 2012
Von miki 101 . Michaela TOP 500 REZENSENT
Format:Taschenbuch
What would Bernie Little do, being only some simple Private Investigator, without his best friend and associate in affairs, with the nice nicknome Chet?
"Who is that Chet?"
Chet is a member of "the Nation within the Nation", how he likes to call it...
"And will that Chet-guy deliver some further explanation on this Nation-in-nation-thing?" You may ask.
Oh yes, he's able to do it, but You will have some difficulty to understand him.
Why that??? That's very simple - because...Chet is a DOG.
And it' s him the true reporter of all the written-down adventures, 4 until today, having the Bernie Little Investigation Group as protagonists.

Chet was a soo well trained K-9 dog, best leaper of his class, certificate yet prepared, a more than safe job with the govn'ment, but then there was that curious "incident".
He doesn't like to take about it, we will only learn bit by bit that there was a cat involved and some blood, maybe, too...
That was the end of his K-9 career before it had begun.
But then he met Bernie, ex-special forces, divorced, one boy-child called Charlie, a Private Investigator with absolutly NO talent to take the very Best from his clients - their money.
So Bernie needs urgently and almost always the help from his Best Friend, Chet.
And Chet is always more that eager to lend him a helping paw...

And here we are - Bernie and Chet ready, willing and able to make the guardians of a beautiful, oh sooo beautiful creature named Princess.
Princess of.. what? - You may ask.
Princess of ... all the princesses, a real handful, and literally a handful of a dog, but what a dog!!!
A price-winning dog, too.
And a very, but very very precious little thing!
Bernie and Chet have to guarantee the safety of her Royal Bitchness, because the evil competitors continue sending threatening letters to make one thing clear - or she stops to compete or... she dies.

OK, to make a short story long - Princess and her owner, the Contessa Adelina Borghese are dog-ehh ...kidnapped, before our Dynamic Duo is able to prevent it.
So they will try their very best to save la Contessa and her Royal ehmm Princess.
But to make things worse, in the evolution of the case Bernie and Chet will be divided, each one alone and on his own trying to resolve the big problem.
But making the right decisions to save poor little Princess, Chet and Bernie will be able to unmask the culprits and ...
Princess will... ???

But read the story!
Who am I to tell You about the tricks and tracks of this case?
No - it has to be Chet to inform You in the right way at the right time!
And that he does - in his usual, casual way - simply to smile about ...
The next adventure of Bernie and Chet with the promising title To Fetch a Thief: A Chet and Bernie Mystery is at my bed-side, will read the book tonite - surely not able to stop befor I have them - ehhm the book finished.
So it will be at dawn when I can tell You more about it!
Read and learn - it is never invane!
Go and save a puppy from the dog shelter before it will be too late (for the puppy!!!)
You will never regret it - Word of a true Chet-and-Dogs-Lover...

5.0 von 5 Sternen Five woofs for Chet 8. Januar 2010
Von Rita Sydney - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe|Von Amazon bestätigter Kauf
It would be hard to beat the first Chet and Bernie mystery (Dog on It) but this one is equal to it. For new readers, understand that the story is told by Chet, the dog. (See reviews of the first book to appreciate how successfully this technique was used.)

Chet, when referring to Bernie and himself, always says "me and Bernie." It seems exactly what a canine like Chet would do. Undying devotion to Bernie but no shying from his own sense of self.

Chet is his usual doggy self; we see Chet the Jet in his glory running and jumping. His food preferences are plain: at the top is bacon, cooked juicy, but nothing wrong with raw. There's NO food that's not tryable. We see his first experience with a bear claw; understanding "bear" and "claw" Chet's not about to gobble it down.

It's easy to focus on Chet in the story but the reader can also appreciate the dialogue between Bernie and other characters. We don't need Chet to tell us how clever it often is.

There's a nice sequence when Chet has to take care of Princess, a little fluff ball of a show dog. Chet was amazed how her legs would be a blur while her body didn't move very far.

Readers who love these stories should try the web site [...] for a daily dose of this wonderful canine.

(A note to Mr. Quinn: We don't need the continuing question about Chet's health to keep us reading.)

Oh yes, about the plot. It's good. Maybe better than in the first book. The fact that it's an after thought in this review says a lot. Come for a mystery and stay for a story of the wonderful relationship between Chet and Bernie.

5.0 von 5 Sternen As good as the first...maybe better! 9. Januar 2010
Von J. Hoidal - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

I have read the first book several times and listen to the audio frequently. I was excited to know about the second book in the series and pre-ordered it. There was a little trepidation on my part because sequels are not always up to the standard of the original. Not so with this one. Just loved THEREBY HANGS A TAIL. Finished it at 3 AM so I can pass it on to friends and family who are waiting to read it. If you've ever loved a dog, or have had a dog as a friend, you will understand this book. Chet is SO true to form. His attention span is limited, but his love and faith in Bernie is unconditional. Great book. I recommend it. If you're offended by swearing, be warned there are a few places where pungent language has been used. (By the "perps" mostly.)

4.0 von 5 Sternen Has everything but a plot 23. Februar 2010

I really enjoyed "Dog On It" last year and looked forward to reading this sequel. Although this book was funny and I appreciated Chet's viewpoints, I didn't like it nearly as much. Maybe it was because the characters were flatter or it was not as novel the second time around, maybe it was just that the plot was weak (and the last page totally unbelievable), but it seemed to be a cheap knock-off of "Dog On It". Still good, but not nearly as good as the original.
