Dr. Dolores Krieger and her colleague are the pioneers of Therapeutic Touch, a modern version of ancient healing traditions. I've been interested in TT for some time, and took a course from a practitioner years ago. In my quest to learn more, I picked up one of Krieger's later works. As I read, it became clear that this book is designed for those who've already read her earlier work. This book is an advanced, in depth look at the concepts behind TT. It's also a curious mix of textbook, workbook, and book for lay people. Some of the discussion was beyond me, and there were plenty of long complex sentences I had to reread to understand.
The theme is about Krieger's long-term quest to answer the question `Why do I want to be a healer?' The answer is more complex than you'd think, and her quest drives many of the issues raised. This book would best suit practicing healthcare providers, especially those with TT experience. By the way, TT is taught in over one hundred American hospitals, and in seventy-five countries. Although only anecdotal evidence is mentioned about the benefits of TT for stress relief and healing in children, adults, and even animals, it is quite impressive and worth searching out more studies on the subject.
