The Yugslav Drama is a highly informative, yet entirely comprehendible, explanation of the civil conflict that occurred in Yugoslavia in the early 1990s. Crnobrnja explains what led to the civil conflict, what exactly happened, and how the region is moving forward. His perspective on the war is important to take into consideration because of his employment as the Yugoslav ambassador. By not just recounting, but providing the why and how, the reader can get a full picture of the disastrous situation. When I began reading this book I had a very limited knowledge base of what Yugoslavia was and what had been happening there. Crnobrnja provided all the information necessary to obtain a grasp on the information from beginning to the almost preset time. Although the conflict has not entirely ceased, he lists several options that the region possesses to retain peace. What I found especially interesting was the explanation on how the international community responded to the conflict. For example, there was much talk of intervention to stop the bloody war, but relatively no actual intervention. I was highly impressed by how such an informative and factual book could be so easy to focus on and stay interested in. I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in the conflicts in Eastern Europe or in ethnic, civil conflicts in general (such as Rwanda and others in Africa).
