Kurzbeschreibung

Writers: do you want to discover the secret to keeping your readers gripped from page one? Now, you can learn exactly how it's done.

Recently, a fellow writer sent me a note to let me know how much they'd enjoyed one of my articles. The note said: “Very few articles hold my interest long enough to complete them. Yours pulled me in and kept me glued to the page until I finished.”

I let my correspondent know I was grateful for her kind words. I replied: “Holding readers' interest is a skill, and it's one you can learn.”

Keeping readers gripped isn't a special gift some writers have and others don't. All it requires is a simple, specific technique that any writer can learn. This is the technique of writing wounded sentences.

Wounded sentences will sharpen every piece of writing you create. You can use this technique for writing fiction stories, advertising copy, feature articles, and academic essays.

As long as you're competent enough to structure a piece of writing in a specific way (if you've ever written something with a beginning, middle and end, that's you), you can use this technique.

Want to keep your readers glued to the page? Pick up your copy of The Wounded Sentence today to make your writing gripping and engaging from your opening line. Your only regret will be that you didn't learn this technique sooner.

Note: This book might not be for you! You shouldn't buy this book if:

  • You're looking for a magical solution to instantly improve your writing. By reading this book, you will learn a technique you can start to apply to all your writing today. Mastering this technique will take effort and practice.

  • You think all books should be at least 150 pages long and you measure the value of books by their length rather than the information they contain. This is a short book explaining a valuable writing technique that's rarely taught in creative writing classes.

  • You're looking for a comprehensive guide to creative writing techniques. There are plenty of those around. This isn't it.

  • You believe only literary writing deserves to be published and read. This is a book for all writers, whether they write ad copy, blog posts, commercial fiction, feature articles or literary fiction.

Still game? Pick up your copy of The Wounded Sentence today, and start gripping all of your readers from page one.

Not only does he teach a fascinating concept but he uses the concept to write this book... And it works perfectly! Kudos!

5.0 von 5 Sternen A Masterpiece! 3. Februar 2014

"The Wounded Sentence" is an intoxicating thriller that teaches writers how to grip their audience from the very beginning, and keep them spellbound until the very end. Upon completion of this book, the writer will not only know and understand these techniques, but will feel intrinsically compelled to use them – immediately!

As a new writer, I kept wondering why some articles captivated me, and why others were too boring to continue with, even though I was keenly interested in the topic. Now I know the answer! And, I have already begun to practice. Not only will these tips improve my writing, but they will also serve me well as a public speaker. Karen Cain

To get this out of the way - I was given my copy for free in return for an honest review. I do my best to be honest.

I feel like I ought to respond to a bit of the criticism of the book I've seen in the comments so far. Yes - the book might be a bit wordy for what boils down to a simple idea in the end. Yes - the book could have been assisted by more concrete examples rather than reading between the lines/relying on understanding the references made to explain the concept. I do think that the coyness of using the instruction to teach the lesson does mean the lesson suffers a little for those who for one reason or another second-guess their own ability to grasp it. (The whole, "Did I get it? I think I got it. Or do I think I get it and really it's still over my head?" thing.)

However, if you're able to read between the lines and grasp the lesson, the book is extremely useful. This is something I think I've done instinctively for awhile, but being aware of "open loops" means I can do it consciously (which usually leads to better effect). On the issue of the "wordiness", I think it lends itself to illustrating the lesson it's teaching. It doesn't bore and once you get the "joke" of it, it can be amusing to play along with (as well as something to study for your own use).

I would absolutely recommend this book.

The writer went all around the mulberry bush and never made the point of the wounded sentence. I still don't get it. I deleted

3.0 von 5 Sternen Really needed more pratical examples 4. Mai 2014

I love the concept, but felt that for a writer who talks about closure he didn't really provide it. He talked a lot about wounding your sentences but only really gave one example, and that was more about changing the sentence order. Would have been a five-star if he'd actually had some more practical advice on how to wound sentences. Some example sentences and then wound them. Now I need to find a book to fill in the gaps.
