Dr. Allender has a wonderful way of explaining how damaging sexual abuse is to the survivor and the many emotions that the survivor faces. It is written in a loving christian format that truly makes the one who was abused feel they have nothing to be ashamed of and God was weeping right along with them. This book has helped me immensely on not only my emotional journey to health, but my spiritual one as well!

Several friends and I decided to go through this book together. We read on our own and used the workbook as the group format. Some of us had read the book before and thought we "were past all that". Sharing this experience with other women made it possible for each of us to really get to the roots instead of just clipping off the top of the weed over and over. We laughed, we wept, and we changed. If you have been frustrated with Bible Classes that are unable to address real life issues and with recovery programs that are unable to offer sanctification, this book will give you what you have been missing. Working through this material together, we were somewhat more like girls, going through a spook house huddled together in one big mass. At the end, we were able to come out of the darkness together and re-enter life with greater confidence, a sense of purpose, and a far greater understanding of the "peace" we had all be seeking for so long.

I finally understand grace. I finally know why I am a Christian. I learned to forgive myself, God and my father. Dr. Allender shows with amazing clarity how damaging abuse is, and how all offenses are abusive despite their motivation.
