There is a famous quote from Henry David Thoreau: there are a thousand hacking at the branches of evil to one who is striking at the root. The beauty of this book is that it helps the reader to understand the roots of procrastination, thereby giving them the tools to overcome it. The book shows how when procrastinators put things off, it's not the tasks they are avoiding first and foremost, but rather the *anxiety* they feel when working on them. Avoiding tasks because of anxiety in turn creates a viscous cycle because putting the tasks off usually creates further anxiety.

The book helps the reader to understand the source of their anxiety, and provides steps for overcoming it. Highly recommended.

I never in my life would have referred to myself as a perfectionist, but this book has helped me to understand why I've been locked in a never-ending cycle of procrastination for so long. I even spent a year in therapy trying to figure out why I procrastinate, and this book and a couple of others have really helped me to understand the deeper issues. I think this book is going to be a valuable tool for me to work on facing the things that I always avoid.

So many books in this field are written by motivational speakers and non-professionals. And, they get stellar reviews because they write stuff that SOUNDS like the right answer. They provide fun reading and gets people pumped up. But, they all lack substance and do not lead to a solution. It's really sad to me how many people give money to these quacks.

But, just because they have a license or a PhD, I'm not saying that you should buy their book. On the contrary, most of the ones written by psychiatrists and PhD's don't really provide true solutions to the problem. They say idiotic things like "just do it". Or, if you don't take that first step, you're not really committed in solving your procrastination problem. They're only a little bit better than the motivational speakers.

This book is the first book I've found (and I've read about 10 of these) that provides some meaningful solutions. However, I should give this book 4 stars because it doesn't explore these solutions deeply enough. It's very cursory. But, I had to give it 5 stars because the books out there are such garbage, that this one stands out.

Well, I bought this book, about 3 months after it was recommended to me (go figure!). I am glad I finally did. I'm much more aware of my compulsions and the consequences they have in my life. I definitely fall into the Perfectionist category so I was resistant to change. This book has so far provided great insight and practical, concrete steps to taking control of my time.

I recommend this book to anyone who is struggling to accomplish tasks because of worry or anxiety. It's a very interesting read. Helps one to understand why they can't seem to get things done and how to overcome these obstacles. The book is a great tool and packed with very helpful information.
