Many different violinists are interviewed and give their opinions on many things. After reading I had a renewed interest both in seeing soloists perform and in searching for audio CD's that I was curious about.

Even piano players will love this book 3. April 2014
Von Sandi Holden - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch Verifizierter Kauf
A great read for musicians whether you play the violin or not. Come to think of it, You might even enjoy this book without knowing how to play a note. Audience members and lovers of music would indulge in these interviews the same way those of us who are never going to climb Mt. Everest delight in Krakauer 's 'Into Thin Air'

A unique concert of musical reality. 2. August 2014
Von Amazon Customer - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verifizierter Kauf
I'm by no stretch of the word a violinist. I decided I wanted to learn to play the fiddle at age 50. I progressed some and played for about six years, developing more appreciation than sonic quality, but with all this came a much deeper appreciation for the structure of music, the process of producing it with a stringed instrument, and wonderment at the variety and quality of men and women who master the art of playing and performing. I also have gotten to see a few live violin concerto performances, one amazing performance of Beethoven's from the front row by an excellent soloist. I also became a great fan of Natalie MacMaster; and read and watched a lot of archival and performance audio and video on the 20th century violin greats and some of todays amazing players. So I guess I'm kind of a violin geek wanna-be and music lover. I also read Laurie's wonderful Violinist web site, and participated clumsily in some discussions.

All that said, this collection of interviews is great fun to inhale. You have to marvel at how each performer has had to find their way to balance living with the extreme demands of attaining and maintaining excellence in their own nook of violin performance or the world of performing, practicing, teaching, learning, creating, and maintaining sanity. These interviews are windows into the lives and creative realities of amazing artists and performers. Laurie, a concert orchestral player in her own right, is an excellent journalist as well, and clearly understands how to bring out something essential about the exceptional performers she interviews. For anyone interested in a peek into the demanding reality of living in the world of a successful musical artist, or who just shares a love of the violin, reading this book is a great blessing. And Hillary Hahn just rocks!
