Matt Stone is an independent health researcher and author of more than 10 books on various health-related topics. He launched an independent investigation into health in 2005, and has since been exploring a wide range of health fields - from general physiology and nutrition to areas as diverse and specific as psychoneuroendocrinology. His investigation has yielded many great, practical insights and simple tips on how regular people can make substantial improvements in their health - for the purpose of both improving or eliminating specific health problems and preventing some of the most common ailments in the modern world. Most of his research has drawn him towards metabolic rate and how many basic functions (digestion, reproduction, aging, immunity, inflammation, sleep) perform better when metabolic rate is optimized.

Well, I am not a vegan, but read the book anyway, because Matt's concept of raising metabolism worked for me, so why shouldn't it work on a vegan diet as well? Like all his books it's easy to read.

This book was a pretty quick read. Over all Stone is advocating a balanced caloric/starch/sugar diet that does not starve the body, but rather fuels your metabolism. He doesn't bash the Vegan diet, but offers tips/criticisms on how to achieve proper metabolism while aligning with that way of eating.

Pros: concise; practical advice
Cons: use of profanity/crude writing style isn't my thing

I think I first heard of Broda Barnes from reading Matt Stone's 180 Degree Health blog. Dr. Barnes had (to me) a surprising perspective on heart disease that is sadly ignored by most of the medical community. It is easy to see how Broda Barnes has influenced Matt's very intriguing approach to a vegan diet. Matt also derives a healthy dose of inspiration from Ray Peat which I find satisfying.

Matt is competent in English and the book is well edited. It was fun to read and funny. Well, I found it funny but I'm a bit of a nerd who actually notices competent English and editing. So be advised.

Chris Randall gives this book some vegan credibility. I actually discovered this book from a Youtube video Chris made. I've been checking out Real Raw Results videos for several months, so it was a surprise to me to see a collaboration between Matt Stone and Chris Randall. It's like discovering two old friends I knew from completely different schools had somehow met and made a baby together.

The result is weird...yet somehow kinda cool. Like Wolfgang Van Halen.

This is not a vegan propaganda book so don't expect a lot of coddling of vegan philosophy. It is about boosting your metabolism on a vegan diet. Some of the suggestions are surprising and interesting. I like surprising and interesting stuff when I read a book.

The bottom line is there was enough surprising and interesting stuff to justify the paltry $4.99 + tax. I got enough out of it to attempt some of the suggestions and see how they work for me. It is a different direction than what I was trying so I am curious as to how it will affect me. Familiar stuff to the 180 Degree Health crowd, but it might be a bit of a culture shock for many vegans.

I really like Matt Stone. He just make since. I reallythink he is onto something big. This book is sure to be very helpful to you, if you can get past crude humor and the f bomb being dropped every once in a while. I was able to see past that and onto the valuable information, but thought it would be nice to warn others. Matt Stone himself is very pleasent to talk to and very knowledgable. I have seen improvement in just the few things I've implimented.

Hey I bought this book for Kindle to PC . I liked the ideas, and certainly think it can be useful to a new crowd of vegans. You know there is huge variety of vegan diets---and for the younger crowd, maybe McDougall just seems like an old diet, and the younggins want the newest upgraded diet (welcome to that mindset from the next phone, computer, etc)

I think that Matt Stones meat eating fans should trust him all the way by doing this vegan diet as a trial and yes, report on it. Give it 6 months! This diet is the cheapest when followed as this book outlines.

I am going to follow it and if I can figure out how to add to my review in 6 months I will report how it has gone for me.

I say to current vegans, on and off again vegans (myself) and meat eaters and vegetarians try it TRY IT.

His list of 25 foods is all you will ever need to start, and you will see even those on SNAP (food stamps) could eat very well on THIS Vegan diet. And who most needs to eat healthy? A whole chunk of our population getting fatter and sicker and soon will be long term disabled and crippling the economy.

Lets save the PEOPLE and then with this diet comes saving animals from factory farming, the environment etc.

Buy this book, hold free classes about it in churches, in communities.

This diet is closer to The McDougall Diet then anything other, but is unique in emphasis and macronutrient composition. Can I say add some Coconut Oil, maybe extra virgin olive oil?

I start today, heck I have most everything on the list already : ). Please add a comment if you can explain how to come back in 6 months to update review. Thanks

This writer's resources are questionable at best. Only five are from peer-reviewed, academic sources, and he even cites Wikipedia as a reference more than once! This book was interesting but when presenting such controversial and lesser known information on topics such as the cause of heart disease, Matt Stone would do well to cite more credible resources. I read this book with an open mind but really, who cites Wikipedia and expects their book to be taken seriously?
