Kurzbeschreibung

The definitive biography, now updated to include the death of Robin Gibb in May 2012.

The Bee Gee's journey from Fifties child act to musical institution is one of pop's most turbulent legends.

Barry, Maurice and Robin Gibb somehow managed to survive changing musical fashions and bitter personal feuds to create musical partnership that has already lasted four times as long as The Beatles.

Described by the authors as their objective tribute, this unflinching biography chronicles everything - the good, the bad... and the bushed-up.

Youthful delinquency, disastrous marriages, bitter lawsuits, gay sex scandals, serious drug problems and the death of younger brother Andy have sometimes made the personal lives of the Brothers Gibb look as bleak as the low spots of a career that once reduced them to playing the Batley Variety Club.

Yet every time the Bee Gees roller coaster seemed derailed for good, they recorded and went on to even greater triumphs.

Today they are revered among pop music's all-time great performers, producers and songwriters. But the true story of their success and the high price they paid for it has never been fully revealed... until now.

This new edition of The Ultimate Biography incorporates a complete listing of every song written or recorded by the Gibbs.

UPDATE: This latest edition contains all the little known information that occurred after Maurice's death to Robin's death. Continuing in the sometimes scandalous, sometimes sad and heartfelt, this edition shows the frustrating dynamics had between Barry and Robin until he became sick. Fans forget how much good music was still being poured from the Gibbs, even individually and occasional together. But the brothers never reformed, to the chagrin of Robin. Nine years of information that any fan would want to know is here. God bless.

UPDATE: This latest update contains a few more intensive chapters after Maurice's death. Sometimes, even fans forget what happened after that terrible day. From the release of Robin's solo album, "Magnet" to the infighting between Barry and Robin's on and off relationship, all is rendered truthfully and in detail. There was a lot of good music released in this time period, but there was the missing 3rd voice - the "glue" that held the Bee Gees together. Now with the passing of Robin Gibb, this voluminous biography details the last days of Robin's life and his family's endurance. The last few pages show glimmers of hope for more unreleased material, but all that rests with Barry and the families. Time will tell, as the Gibb Family is one of the largest musical families in recent history.

How can you possibly write a biography about one of the most successful rock bands of the last four decades and get it all right? Writers Bilyeu, Cook and Hughes (along with Brennan and Crohan and many others) have managed to achieve the impossible. With uncountable interviews and years of research, this team has placed the Gibb family and all their triumphs and tragedies into perspective.

UPDATE: Barry Gibb has publicy stated he dislikes this book as it is written by someone who doesn't know anything about him. A good warning.

Writers Bilyeu, Cook and Hughes (along with Brennan and Crohan and many others) have managed to achieve the impossible. With uncountable interviews and years of research, this team has placed the Gibb family and all their triumphs and tragedies into perspective.

Starting chronologically with the pre-marriage days of Barbara and Hugh Gibb in the 1940's up to the present, continually active Bee Gees, we are presented with every viewpoint, memory and recollection of the three brothers and their freinds and acquaintances. The highs and lows of the Bee Gees and Andy Gibbs' careers are not glossed over or over-emphasized. They are told with 'matter-of-fact' honesty and sincerity; a refreshing exercise in storytelling. The read is fast and crisp with a personal edge lacking anything close to newscopy.

After the conclusion, there are numerous, wonderful appendixes including more comments from folks close to the Gibbs, a complete album and singles discography, a cover versions list and a bibliography with book, magazine, newspaper and Internet Web Sites.

All the beauty marks and all the scars are here. It just makes the Gibb family more human. They may be ordinary people, but they have had extraordinary lives.

Of all the biographies available, this is the most concise, detailed, accurate and researched book out there. This is the book that is used to write the shorter biographies you will find.

I consider myself a big/die-hard Bee Gee Fan. I have most of their records, DVDs, etc. Even though this book was a bit 'pricey', I decided to try it out anyway. The authors (up front) tells you that this book is mostly about their 'records/music', and they are correct. HOWEVER, there are many parts of the book that have direct quotes from Linda, Yvonne, Molly, Barbara, and others about personal stuff and a look at "behind the scenes" things that were happening to them. To me, these sections were the most important ones in the book. I thought I knew a lot already about the Bee Gees (and I do), but I found out some other interesting things that I didn't know from this book (for example...Barry's broken nose, Linda's broken arm, Barry and Linda almost missing their wedding day, the girls playing a trick on Yvonne and left her (in a box, on stage), etc.). You'll just have to read it. I have hopes that maybe one day Barry will put out a book with more of these "behind the scene" happenings because they are really interesting.

I purchased the Kindle edition and it is a big book (over 800 pages). But...when I started reading it - I couldn't put it down. It took me about 3 days to finish it (and that's reading it day and night). I'm retired so I had time. But I was really glad I purchased it. There is even a lot in the book about Andy. The book starts from 'before their birth', all the way through Robin's death. So if you are a Bee Gees fan - just put out the price and purchase it. I'm glad I did. The pictures are included on the kindle book as well.

This is a wonderful book, though VERY large (over 700 pages). I am really enjoying reading it, just started a few days ago. It is so interesting already to read about their childhoods and I'm looking forward to getting further into it to learn even more. Great choice for anyone who really wants to know the story of the Bee Gees.

Everything a BeeGee fan could ever want to know.Stories after story. Songs, lyrics. Every album. Every song. The book is large but has so many stories I had not heard and then and add on after Robin and Mo's death. So sad but so great to have in this book!

What a wonderful read! There seemed to be very little, if any, that the author took advantage of. I believe she stuck pretty much to the actual life that these men lived. Very informative on so many levels. It is really sad to have Maurice and Robyn leave this earth so soon - especially Maurice. However if you were/are a Bee Gees fan, I truly believe, you will very much enjoy this book.
