Kurzbeschreibung

2012 Christy Award finalist, Contemporary series category.
Andrew Jones was once one of the few surgeons in the world to have that rare, God-given ability called The Touch. But after failing to save his young fiancée, Faith, at the scene of a car accident, Jones abandons his gift and shuns the operating room.

Lara Blair owns a Chicago-based biomedical engineering company developing a surgical tool that will duplicate precisely the movement of a surgeon’s hands, reducing or eliminating failed surgical procedures. Lara has pursued the best surgeons in the world to test this surgical tool, and all of them have failed.

As Lara pursues Jones’s skill for her project, Jones’s stubborn resistance cracks, and he begins to open up to her about the wounds that still haunt him. But when Jones discovers the urgency behind Lara’s work, he must choose to move beyond his past. As each is forced to surrender secret fears, they are bonded together through the lives of the people Jones serves and by the healing secret that Faith left behind.

5.0 von 5 Sternen EXCELLENT Story! 17. September 2011
Von Lynda Harrington - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe
This is not your typical love story and is one of the best I have ever read. One thing that particularly intrigued me was this page turner was not predictable in many areas. Also, the author utilized proficient vocabulary that is not common in many works of fiction. I hope we see additional stories similar to this from Randall Wallace. As a librarian and avid reader, this is a title I will highly recommend.

5.0 von 5 Sternen I apologize to the guy who sat next to me at 35,000 feet 28. August 2011
Von Steven Pressfield - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe
I read Randall Wallace's The Touch on an airplane and it became kind of embarrassing because I found myself crying at a bunch of places in the story. The first time it happened, I tried to be cool in front of my fellow passengers ... a casual daub around the corners of the eyes, no problem. But the book kept moving me over and over, so that I finally just gave up and sat there blubbering like a Dad watching videos of his four-year-old kids doing black-flips into the backyard swimming pool.

To be serious though: what makes a book or a film so moving that it produces tears? It isn't because the story is sappy or lachrymose (that would produce the opposite reaction); it's because the characters are put in situations that require them to act with great honor or love, particularly in the face of adversity. Such moments are a staple of everything Mr. Wallace writes, as anyone who has seen Braveheart can attest. (By the way, check out Love and Honor, another terrific novel -- about Russia and Catherine the Great).

Mr. Wallace says that people often ask him why he writes war stories and he always answers that they're not war stories, they're love stories. "What do you love so much that you'd be willing to give your life for it?" Well, here in The Touch, Randall Wallace is writing a pure love story--the tale of a surgeon who loses his faith and regains it--and it is terrific precisely because of those moments of truth, of honor and of love that hit you in the heart and make you react with emotion. This is a four-handkerchief novel in the best sense of the term. Get it and read it. But be careful taking it on an airplane. I've warned you!

4.0 von 5 Sternen Using your God given gifts 23. August 2011
Von Miss Cindy - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe
"The Touch" by Randall Wallace was a very good read. Andrew Jones has it all. His life is perfect. His lady, Faith has accepted his proposal and he has "the touch." The rising neurosurgeon is acclaimed for his skill and his talents. But in an instant his abilities as a doctor are not enough. He fails. this begins the next chapter in Jones life. One of walls and fortresses to keep out the possibility of failure or pain. He doesn't trust himself and thus doesn't practice surgery again. He begins to teach and use his skills as a doctor to heal people in non-life threatening ways. The other main character in the story is Lara. She is driven to perfect the unknown, impossible brain surgery technique that takes her mothers life. She pursues Jones in an attempt to do what no other can do. The story line continues from there as each character is challenged to trust in himself and in someone higher, God. Will they use the talents, or "the touch" that God has given them, or will they let fear prevent them from doing what God has created them to do? I won't tell you. You'll have to read it to find out yourself.
