Granted, the 'Bootstrap' theory is passe, so critics often allege so is the thesis of the book. Yet, it seems to me, many parallels have strengthened in the intervening years, such as the notion of bidirectional time, and the multiverse solution to EPR. It seems to me, the common denominator of mysticism is access to an orthogonal dimension of 'time' from the point of view of which, our linear time is 'stationary'. At any rate, it seems to me that prof. Victor Mansfield's 'Science Synchronicity and Soul Making' is the best update to Capra's thesis. Also 'Quantum Questions' is a good sourcebook complement, as another reviewer mentioned, though Wilber seems to have some professional jealousy towards Capra. Schrodinger's own 'My View of the World' is also important. Even though Schrodinger himself dismisses the attempts to 'prove' mysticism via physics, it is clear his mystical view of the world finds noo contradiction in his view of physics.

If you take a close look at Hinduism, Buddhism, and Taoism you would realize that these religions/philosophies give much meaning and purpose to the human condition. Moreover, these eastern systems allow an individual to realize their innermost nature without discarding science. Lesser-developed religions, such as Christianity, require one to have blind faith in doctrines that in many instances are utter nonsense. This book clearly shows the spiritual and intellectual superiority of the eastern faiths over junkie faiths such as Christianity. The amount of harmony displayed between western science and eastern mysticism not only shows the superiority of the Asian faiths over their western rivals, but that Christians have much to learn from the greater world traditions of Hinduism, Buddhism, and Taoism.

There are many solid books on connections and continuity in history and religion and physics. However, Jacob Bronowski, "The Ascent of Man", would turn me over in my grave if he found out that I was reading such books as this. There are too many quasi science quasi religion books that want to take some principle and reinterpret it to be a New age truth or prove the some old blind philosopher beat us too it for example (The Seat of the Soul.)
Dr. Capra is drawing parallels in two fields and not trying to say, "See I told you so". He takes the time and pages to describe the science and does a good job of distilling complex religions down to single chapters. I leave it up to Dr. Capra and you to determine if there really is any parallel. A parallel does not mean equivalents. If you are a Gary Zukav sort of person, this book will not help you at all.
