There should be a warning in the reviews of this book: if you don't have a hefty education in philosophy and art history and don't appreciate frequent oblique references to Kant don't get this book.
I would say this is a book written by philosophers to impress each other and torture college kids.
No art reproduced to illustrate any of the points.
As an alternative, I am enjoying "Landscape: Theory".
Also CS Lewis "Surprised by Joy" and his sense of things that reach past the edge of our experience is helpful for me.
