This is well written and easily read by non architects and architects alike. Since it has become available in English translation, I have added this book to the reading list of my Western Thought and Architectural Theory course. It offers insights into the relationship of man and the material world few other books have mastered. It should be noted that the Dominicans sent Le Corbusier to the Abbey of Le Thoronet to study it before beginning his work on La Tourette. This book brings the objective and spiritual power of architecture as the lasting evidence of civilization and unquestionable demonstration of culture to those not fortunate enough to be able to visit the abbey themselves. It creates a bridge for those who would like to gain access to a sensible, emotional and rational connection to works of architecture within their reach.
