An obscure series that deserves to be more widely known

I originally read Geraldine Harris' Seven Citadels series when I was in Junior High. I read them frequently, even though I had to either request the books through an inter-library loan or coax my mother into driving me to the downtown library. I loved these books and I've had very fond memories about them. Unfortunately, I forgot the name of the author until quite recently and didn't have an opportunity to read them again. I finally found the books again and ordered them from Amazon. I was on pins and needles until all four books arrived. I couldn't wait to read them again, but I was afraid they wouldn't hold up to my memories.
They definitely did. The imagery is incredibly vivid, and Geraldine Harris is one of those rare authors able to make up places and languages that seem natural instead of contrived. The ending is satisfactory and basically what I expected (there are plenty of hints along the way for a careful reader), but it left me wanting to learn more about Zindar. I count that a mark of a well-written story. This is definitely a series to savor. I highly recommend it. If you enjoyed Robin McKinley's Dalamar novels and Patricia McKillip's Riddle master series, you'll like this.

This book is amazing. The prose is rich and lyrical and the narrative is superlative. This is a great little gem of a book. I read this book as a pre-teen and NEVER forgot it. I am so happy that I ran across the name again!!! I highly recommend this book!

I happened accross this series by accident, but am so glad that I did! This was the final chapter in a wonderful series that I will read over and over again. The characters are so real, and the story spectacullar. You will be amazed at how vivid the author makes the landscapes. This is a real treat.
