Kurzbeschreibung

15. Dezember 2005
In this thorough and balanced account, researcher D. Scott Rogo offers a critical and scientific examination of reincarnation. He considers the various forms of past-life recall (dreams, waking visions, déjà vu), the most impressive case studies, and the history of research into reincarnation. He then concludes the book with an examination of explanatory models that can account for the phenomenon. Rogo concludes that some people can indeed tap into the memories of other people, cultures, and places long removed in time, but proposes that the evidence might be pointing to something more complex than our traditional views of reincarnation. "The Search for Yesterday is probably the single best book critiquing the research on reincarnation." - George Hansen, The Trickster and the Paranormal D. Scott Rogo (1950-1990) was one of the most widely respected writer-journalists covering the field of parapsychology, as well as an active scientific investigator. Educated at the University of Cincinnati and San Fernando Valley State College, Rogo held a unique position in parapsychology and made many contributions to the field that deserve recognition. He served as a visiting researcher at the Psychical Research Foundation, then in Durham, North Carolina, and at the Division of Parapsychology and Psychophysics of the Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. He published papers on ESP in referred parapsychological journals and was active in field investigations of hauntings and poltergeists. Rogo was also a leading authority on the history of psychical research; the breadth of his historical knowledge of the field was unsurpassed. Over the course of more than two-dozen published books, Rogo sought to broaden the range of topics worthy of paranormal research.

I am shocked that this book has no reviews and is clearly not very well known as it is hands-down the best book I have read on the phenomenon of past life memories and reincarnation. The author deals critically with several compelling, yet ultimately problematic, cases. Why is it that a person under hypnosis or someone who is experiencing what appear to be past life recall often gets certain verifiable details shockingly correct, yet mis-remembers other details? And why is it that some individuals, upon checking out the names, places, and dates that are remembered, seem to be recalling memories of two separate individuals who lived at the same time and place? There are several problematic aspect of the theory of reincarnation that crop up like a worm in the apple. What is really going on here? Do people truly live previous lives or is there some other phenomenon responsible for such memories? The author has a very critical, thoughtful, and scientific mind, and seems to have no axe to grind. He goes where the evidence leads, examining the conclusions and the most compelling cases of Dr. Ian Stevenson and others in the field. Mr. Rogo is not cynical skeptic who dismisses the paranormal aspect of the phenomenon...he acknowledges that something very special is going on here, but his conclusions tend to lead away from the theory of one soul living over and over again in different bodies. If you don't simply want the party line parroted back to you about reincarnation, but instead wish to learn about the issues involved and the theories to account for them, then you may enjoy this book very much.
