I was quite surprised, reading this book, to find in it a complete course on the well-known center-counter opening. The scandinavian is not that easy. Your opponent, from the beginning can take advantage of the Queen emerging on the center of the board and can gain a tempo. But that's only if you play 2. Qxd5 ... and only if your opponent is well prepared. Jovanka Houska analyses quite strongly the other variations like 2. Nf6, white denying taking the pawn on d5 or the obscure and tricky portuguese variation. The book is very complete, and accentuates the difficulties for the black player to build a strong play. Hence, you won't find here a book that claims this opening as the only one, for the transpositions to other openings are also pointed out. Moreover, identifying the problems first, describing a lot of black defeats by analysing their origins, Jovanka Houska tends to give a very positive view of that opening which is more and more played at a high level. Last, learning such an opening, getting in the center first and developing your pieces as quick as possible can only guide you to think a position another way, what Jovanka Houska succeeds in along basic principles tricks and alerts to the scandinavian player.
