"The Ring"...
... this isn't only the title of the book, it's the most important thing, too. The ring is made by a goldsmith and it has the shape of a fish, a long fish with its tail in his mouth. Rafael needed six months of hard work to pay for it.
Who is Rafael? Rafael has fallen in love with Anita. He wants to marry her. Who is Anita? "Anita is the most beautiful girl that I've ever seen", says Miguel. Miguel is one of the few people in the village who can read. She tells her stories to the children of the village. Her stories are always about princes and princesses.
"A long time ago, Anita had found her prince; it was the poor fisherman Rafael, who was never good enough for the plans of her father." Miguel continues: "But one day, a soldier came from the city. He was a stranger, but he gave people of the village presents. The soldier's real name was Carlos and he was the new prince in Anita's story."
One day a boy visits his uncle in the village; he walks along the beach with his brother. There they come across Rafael. Now he is a madman.
When the boy is a man he comes to the village as a doctor and wants to know everything about the mad, poor Rafael. The people want to help him and tell their stories to him. The stories are all true. Nobody lies to him, but the only one who really knows what happened is Rafael...
