Kurzbeschreibung

This book is about Buddhism, and the pursuit of happiness. The author takes us on an intensely personal journey into the practice of Nichiren Buddhism, which has now been embraced by many millions of people around the world. It is not in any way about a remote, abstract, inaccessible, philosophy. It is about Buddhism in daily life; about learning in a wholly practical way, how to build a better and happier life for yourself, and for those whom your life touches, no matter what the circumstances. You don't have to conform to a specific lifestyle. You don't have to be especially knowledgeable or dedicated or indeed religious in any way. Nichiren Buddhism teaches the extraordinary truth that happiness is not a matter of chance or accident, but essentially, a matter of choice, and that we can all learn how to make that choice.

I was introduced to Nicherin Bhuddism (Buddha for Everyone, Every Day) about 6 years ago and have been a half-hearted practitioner ever since. I am a born sceptic and have in my long life met scores of would-be Gurus, Spiritual Leaders, "Healers", Preachers, and other Folk from the spiritual Supermark. I paid money for a Mantra from Maharishi (sexy Sadie, the Deceiver), gave part of my inheritance to William Dove alias Paul Solomon (money gone without a trace, although I did learn a lot from his sermons and made some great friends), helped a friend who had been raped by Babaji (the Holy Prick)and much much more. It's extremely hard for me to "believe" with my head in anything spiritual or esoteric, although in my heart I am convinced.

Nicherin Bhuddism offers no Gurus (except Nichin himself, who died around AD1250), no God, no heirarchy, no fees, no laws of obedience, just a simple method of centering oneself and dealing with one's life, and I like it just fine, but until now I hae been lazy and scepticl about practicing. Woollard's book has helped a lot to remove the reluctance in my brain and to have the courage to follow my heart without embarrassment.

What I hate about the book is the grammar!!! Why couldn't Woollard afford a proofreader? Commas fly though the air and land in his text everywhere except where they belong, words are misspelled, "it's" and "its" are used at random--as an English scholar enough to make me want to scream!

A Great Explanation of Nichiren's Buddhism 3. September 2008
Von Richard G. Howren - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch|Von Amazon bestätigter Kauf
I have read many a book on the subject of Nichiren's Buddhism. This one is a keeper. Well written in an easy to understand Western perspective. This is not rocket science. Anyone can practice this life philosophy. William Woollard has been able to explain a lot of the subtle nuances of this religion that many others have only scratched the surface. He admits that he was a skeptic in the beginning, even coming from a Catholic family. Reluctant as he says because he thought that at first he would sort of debunk this practice, but the more he investigated the more he saw and understood the logic in Nichiren's Buddhism. Read and see for yourself how wonderful life can be. I know that I will definitely reread it again and even use the book for some future references. Woollard has an eloquent way with words. There is no way that I could explain it as plainly and completely as he does.

The Beauty of Buddhism 22. Mai 2009
Von EURO-DIVA - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
I have been practicing Nichiren Buddhism since only recently and I found this book helpful in motivating me to strengthen my faith (and actions!) through my practice. There are things from the book about Buddhism that I understand a bit more because they were explained in lay terms.
The author has researched his subject well and the book, especially in the first half, is also very useful for anyone interested in Buddhism in general.

I am grateful that Woollard occasionally reads selections from his book in the Buddhist Podcast, in order for the listeners - from every corner of the world- to enjoy the audio version of it. I'll be buying a few copies for my friends.

This book articulates, in lay terms, what Nichiren Buddhism is.
Excellent source for folks interested in learning about Soka
Gaki International and its beliefs.

It is not so much the problem that is causing the suffering, as the response to it. "e;

He taught that when we are weak our problems seem huge, even overwhelming. When we are strong the problems appear to shrink in size. The essential issue therefore is not how to eliminate problems from ones life, which is a delusion, but how to grow stronger. And there is really only one way to achieve that ...by overcoming problems. "e;

Nichiren taught above all that though we cannot change the nature of human life, we can fundamentally change our attitude to that life, and it is essentially our attitude to the pains and problems that we encounter, that determines whether or not we can establish happiness at the centre of our lives. "e;
