I resisted buying this book for the longest time, simply because, already owning The Real Book: Sixth Edition and The Real Book - Volume II (C Instruments): C Instruments 2nd Edition (Fake Book), I had charts for more songs than I could learn or play in a lifetime. But then, I had a chance to peruse one in a music store, and found it had a lot of tunes that I really wanted to play, including The Jive Samba, Witchcraft, and Poinciana. Then when I got the book home and saw how well it complimented my other Real Books, I wondered why I ever hesitated. Yes, it's true that volumes 1 and 2 contain a lot more of the jazz standards that you are more likely to hear and want to play, but I think this volume is a good investment for diversifying your tune selection and for an overall broadening of your jazz scope. After all, how many times can you play Autumn Leaves and All The Things You Are before you start boring your audience to tears? Jazz performers and musicians, get this book. You won't be disappointed.
