-#1 New York Times bestselling author Debbie Macomber

#1 New York Times bestselling author Robyn Carr returns to Thunder Point with an uplifting story about overcoming loss and finding unexpected love

Scott Grant has a bustling family practice in the small Oregon community of Thunder Point. The town and its people have embraced the widowed doctor and father of two, his children are thriving, and Scott knows it's time to move on from his loss. But as the town's only doctor, the dating pool is limited. That is, until a stunning physician's assistant applies for a job at his clinic.

Peyton Lacoumette considers herself entirely out of the dating scene. She's already been burned by a man with kids, and she's come to Thunder Point determined not to repeat past mistakes. When Scott offers her a job, at a much lower salary than she's used to, Peyton is surprisingly eager to accept…at least for now. She's willing to stay for a three-month trial period while she explores other options.

Scott and Peyton know the arrangement is temporary—it isn't enough time to build a real relationship, never mind anything with lasting commitment. But love can blossom faster than you think when the timing is right, and this short visit just might hold the promise of forever.

4.0 von 5 Sternen I AM MOVING TO THUNDER POINT! 5. August 2014
Von The Literacy Advocate - Veröffentlicht auf
Format:Taschenbuch|Verifizierter Kauf
NOTE: Current reading order of the Thunder Point Series novels is at the end of this review.

We long-time Robyn Carr fans do not read her novels with the notion of finding perfect structure, innovative style, totally unexpected action, or shocking plot development. To those who comment on feeling too much repetition of character type or action in Robyn's series, or on the choppiness of the multiple points of view presented, I say this: Robyn's three series, Grace Valley, Virgin River, and now, Thunder Point, are warm and wonderful and real...just like the very best of friends we look for in 'real life.' This time, Robyn takes us on a wonderful walk through Thunder Point with Dr. Scott Grant, a lonely widower who wants to meet a woman who can appreciate the children he loves unconditionally and who wants to share his life of service. Peyton Lacoumette, a physician's assistant, arrives in Thunder Point with a significant amount of baggage. She's left her high-paying city job after her live-in lover, also the owner of the medical practice Peyton worked for, replaced her both in his office and in his bed with a nurse also working in his practice. Peyton's experience as caretaker for his spoiled, entitled children make her determined to avoid men with children as potential relationship material. The strength of this story, like all of Robyn's books, is in the characters who mean the world to us. We follow their thoughts as the author presents each of their points of view (a difficult, complex effort in an anthology-based series), and we cheer them on, hoping that they will find their happy endings and immensely satisfied that the author honors our expectations. There is pain, and loss, and growth, and the wonderful sense of neighborhood that has too often disappeared in our "real" world. Indeed, the residents of Thunder Point all get by with a little help from their friends. I'd move there in a minute, but I'll have to settle for loving every single one of these stories.

If you have not read Robyn's Virgin River series, you are missing out on one of the best "warm fuzzy" reading experiences one could ever have. For the correct reading order of the VR series (currently at 20 titles), please see my other reviews, beginning with Virgin River, the first novel in the series of the same name. Don't miss it!

1. The Wanderer -- (Hank) Cooper & Sarah Dupre
2. The Newcomer -- Mac McCain & Gina James
3. The Hero -- Spencer Lawson & Devon McAllister
4. The Chance -- Eric Gentry & Laine Carrington
5. The Promise -- Dr. Scott Grant & Peyton Lacoumette
6. The Homecoming -- Seth Sileski & Iris McKinley (publishes 8/26/14)
7. One Wish - teacher Troy Headly & florist Grace Dillon (publishes on 2/24/15)

4.0 von 5 Sternen A Great Small Town Read! 25. Juni 2014

First posted at Once Upon a Chapter

If I’m being honest with myself I went into The Promise by Robyn Carr more than a little confused. I read Virgin River by Robyn Carr a few years ago and remember really enjoying it. Then a few months back I read Four Friends and didn’t enjoy it near as much as I had anticipated. Needless to say, I wasn’t sure what to expect with The Promise.

I haven’t read a contemporary romance in too long. The Promise by Robyn Carr set me in the small town of Thunder Point. There are quite a few characters introduced in the beginning of the book. I just rolled with the flow and everyone soon fell into place in my mind. Peyton and Scott both had some issues that needed to be worked through and these issues even presented themselves during the middle of the story.

If you’re a long time reader of the blog, you know I’m a sucker for secondary characters. The Promise delivers in spades. I really enjoyed spending a few hours with them and Carr made me want to live there. The male lead, Scott Grant, does have two small children and I have to say they really added to the story. I finished this book late Saturday night. I woke up Sunday morning and was disappointed that I didn’t have more to read.

The Promise by Robyn Carr is the fifth book in the Thunder Point series. It can easily stand by itself. I haven’t read the remainder of the series and still loved the book. I’m even more excited to go back and read some of the older books in the series. If you’re looking for a small town contemporary romance, make sure you check out the Thunder Point series by Robyn Carr!

5.0 von 5 Sternen Book Obsessed Review: The Promise 25. Juni 2014
Von Book Obsessed - Veröffentlicht auf
Even though Peyton isn't the usual type Scott goes for (blonde), he's immediately attracted to her, even when he's under the impression that men aren't her thing. With Scott believing this to be true, it gives them the opportunity to become good friends before anything else.

Peyton, having just gotten out of a relationship with a doctor with kids, would never have taken the job with Scott had she known he was a single father. With how all the townspeople love to talk, all they divulged to her was that Scott was a dedicated family man.

When Scott gets called away on an emergency with no babysitter in sight, Peyton wonders if she's finding herself falling back into the pattern of her previous relationship. It turns out not to be the case, because unlike her previous relationship, his kids adore Peyton. Both the kids and Peyton take an immediate like to one another. Not only do Scott's kids like Peyton, but the whole town of Thunder Point. The locals easily welcomed her into the fold, and treated her as a longtime friend.

Her relationship with Scott was not without its bumps. Of course her ex has to show to cause trouble. He wants Peyton back but feels he's justified in his behavior and treatment of her. Of course to the ex, everything he did was Peyton's fault and never his. This then causes the conflict between Peyton and Scott that every romance must have to keep the story interesting. Otherwise their journey would have been a little too perfect.

I enjoyed both characters together as well as on their own. I felt like I got to know Scott a whole lot more in this one than any of the previous installments. I got to see a brand new side of him other than the widower with two small children. Peyton was the perfect match for him; someone who is his equal and adores children. She was a woman of strong moral character; she stepped in and helped out a family when they needed her, even though they were just outright cruel to her for years. I would like to see what becomes of that family in Ms. Carr's future installments.

THE PROMISE is home-run hit from Ms. Carr. Whenever I'm in a reading slump, I know I can pick up a Robyn Carr novel and climb into a town of friends and family that I never tire of visiting.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Another series where I can barely wait for the next! 1. Juli 2014

I love Robyn Carr,s books. I preorder them and when they pop into my Kindle I am so excited I start them immediately and by the next day I am sorry that I read it so fast. This series takes place in a small town and as per usual we get to know all the characters well. Warts and all. As with the Virgin River series and Jacks bar, this one now has Coopers bar and deck overlooking the water. They make me want to go there! Once again I am eagerly looking forward to the next book.

Once again Robyn Carr has written a fascinating book. I love the Thunder Point series as much as Virgin River. The characters in the story are like next door neighbors. No, this one doesn't have a mystery in the plot, but that is fine, it wasn't needed to keep the story line interesting. I look forward to the next in this series, in fact, it is already pre-ordered.
