What distinguished Swedish publication "Private", the world's first sexually explicit magazine, in the 1980s? Female lust. After 20 years of photographing mostly amateur models, publisher Berth Milton came to believe that females were more sexually ravenous than males. In the 1980s he became obsessed with portraying women as the voracious hedonists of his experience. Always controlling with "Private", in the '80s he became maniacal, determined that the magazine bear no creative stamp but his own. After nights of heavy drinking he'd return to his offices and tear up his designer's layouts, redoing them to his taste; anyone who challenged him was fired. After moving the "Private" headquarters to Barcelona, he shot most of the photo sets in his own home and garden, playing out his most intimate fantasies in the pages of his magazine. There is no doubt that the 1980s were a dark time for Berth Milton, but his personal torment resulted in some inspired photography. Blunter and more emphatic than his 1970s work, this is the 1980s in all its self-obsessed, big-haired glory. This five-volume, 960-page mini-boxed set presents the best of "Private" from 1980 to 1989. Each 192-page book features seven to ten of the finest photo sets, arranged in chronological order, produced from the original color transparencies. Also included are photos never seen in the magazine, as well as all the magazine covers, plus behind-the-scenes photos of Milton at work. Vintage art, ads, and editorials complete this fascinating look at the golden age of pornography as interpreted by Sweden's most notorious publisher-photographer. Über den Autor
Dian Hanson was born in Seattle in 1951. For 25 years she produced various men's magazines, including Puritan, Juggs and Leg Show, before becoming TASCHEN's sexy book editor in 2001. Her many books for TASCHEN include Vanessa del Rio: Fifty Years of Slightly Slutty Behavior, Tom of Finland XXL, and The Big Butt Book. She lives in Los Angeles.

Die Colletion Box mit 5 kleinen Büchern zeigt ein Querschnitt des Magazins des schwedischen Adult Magazins "Private" der 80er Jahre. Es gibt Hintergrundinformationen zum Eigentümer, zur Moral der Zeit und wie sich die Branche entwickelt hat. Danach sind die Bücher gefüllt mit einer Auswahl von Fotostories. Nach welchen Kriterien die Stories Eingang in der Kollektion gefunden haben wird nicht ersichtlich. Es sind durchweg attraktive Frauen, in der Regel wohlgeformt, die ihre Freude am Sex mit mehren Männern zur Schau stellen. Die Fotostories sind nicht mit den heutigen zu vergleichen, es waren eben noch Analogkameras im Einsatz. Dennoch auf fototechnisch auf gutem Niveau, die Stories zeigen die übliche Abfolge von Kennenlernen, zeigen der weiblichen Reize, HC action mit dem finalen cumshots.

The Box Set consists of 5 tiny books and it would have been correct if the set were advertised as such.
If you you are into spending money for postcard sized reproductions of Private's crude hard-core photo shoots from the 80's then this is for you.

Not only am I a casual fan of Private's brand of pornographic photography, I'm also partial to the 80's and that characteristic style, so I thought this would be an interesting purchase. I got what I expected out of the visuals themselves, but the size of the books are disappointing. Any kind of photo book, erotic or not, needs large pages to showcase the colors and details of whatever the subjects are doing, and ... yeah, these are really the size of postcards as another reviewer said. The size does lend itself to being held open aloft in one hand, if that somehow matters to anyone. For the price, this may be a decent collectible novelty (especially Private fans), with a nice container box lettered in gold, and slip covers on the five books have a lips and cherry logo drawn across the spines. You can maybe recapture the thrill of cleverly hiding this small, compact bundle of porn from your roommates / family, but if you're looking for photos with more surface area, this will let you down.
