It's a cliche to say, at the start of a book review of a weight loss book, "I've read many but this is the best" but what are you supposed to do when it's true? Well, I guess you give the reasons why. First, throughout the book, I felt like I was being addressed by a friend who understands, not by some skinny celebrity that can afford to pay a personal trainer hundreds of dollars a week. So, the author's tone and caring put me at ease.
Let's face it, dealing with weight issues is stressful. As a matter of fact, one of the most helpful discussions in the Princess Plan is about stress - what happens in the body when it occurs and where it goes (into your belly fat) and what we unwittingly do to keep it going. For example, when you exercise under guilt, as in "I ate too many ho-ho's at the holiday party, and now I need to stay at the gym an extra hour to make up for it" you may be technically burning calories, but you are putting stress into your body that's going to make you hang onto the weight, so your efforts are pretty much moot. So, what the solution? There are many, and Dr. Hanes goes through each suggestion thoroughly, but the one that is most dear to her heart is to practice yoga.
What made me connect with this book was that Dr. Hanes makes sure we don't just know "what to do" but she encourages journaling so that we can come to know why we got into the weight issues we are grappling with. She gives a lot of direction on how to do the journaling, so you don't feel lost as to where to begin.
But what about the "Princess" part? Well, that's where the fun is! Dr. Hanes helps you to transform into your inner Princess by giving tips about posture, grooming, clothes, makeup and more. So, it's not about "do this exercise, eat this and not that" but about how to make yourself feel and act beautiful while you're on your journey. *That's* the big difference between this and other books in the genre - I've never seen those issues addressed in other weight loss or fitness books.
You know when you get to the end of a book and you're kind of sad, because your journey and experience with it are over? Well, it's not like that with this book. Dr. Hanes provides web resources so that you can continue to dialogue with others who have also read the text and are living their new, Princess lives.
So, this is it - this is the one - join the Princesses of the world and buy this book, and give the royal wave goodbye to those old pounds.
