5.0 von 5 Sternen Mal was anderes und motivierend 17. März 2013
Von Mathilde
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf

5.0 von 5 Sternen I'm (finally) a Princess! 22. November 2012
Von R. Ippolito - Veröffentlicht auf
It's a cliche to say, at the start of a book review of a weight loss book, "I've read many but this is the best" but what are you supposed to do when it's true? Well, I guess you give the reasons why. First, throughout the book, I felt like I was being addressed by a friend who understands, not by some skinny celebrity that can afford to pay a personal trainer hundreds of dollars a week. So, the author's tone and caring put me at ease.

Let's face it, dealing with weight issues is stressful. As a matter of fact, one of the most helpful discussions in the Princess Plan is about stress - what happens in the body when it occurs and where it goes (into your belly fat) and what we unwittingly do to keep it going. For example, when you exercise under guilt, as in "I ate too many ho-ho's at the holiday party, and now I need to stay at the gym an extra hour to make up for it" you may be technically burning calories, but you are putting stress into your body that's going to make you hang onto the weight, so your efforts are pretty much moot. So, what the solution? There are many, and Dr. Hanes goes through each suggestion thoroughly, but the one that is most dear to her heart is to practice yoga.

What made me connect with this book was that Dr. Hanes makes sure we don't just know "what to do" but she encourages journaling so that we can come to know why we got into the weight issues we are grappling with. She gives a lot of direction on how to do the journaling, so you don't feel lost as to where to begin.

But what about the "Princess" part? Well, that's where the fun is! Dr. Hanes helps you to transform into your inner Princess by giving tips about posture, grooming, clothes, makeup and more. So, it's not about "do this exercise, eat this and not that" but about how to make yourself feel and act beautiful while you're on your journey. *That's* the big difference between this and other books in the genre - I've never seen those issues addressed in other weight loss or fitness books.

You know when you get to the end of a book and you're kind of sad, because your journey and experience with it are over? Well, it's not like that with this book. Dr. Hanes provides web resources so that you can continue to dialogue with others who have also read the text and are living their new, Princess lives.

So, this is it - this is the one - join the Princesses of the world and buy this book, and give the royal wave goodbye to those old pounds.

5.0 von 5 Sternen A Great Book Even For The Skeptical Princess 6. Januar 2013
Von Liza Lee - Veröffentlicht auf
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
I am a NYC business woman. I am a tough customer. I downloaded this book for Kindle when it was free. Why not? I opened it expecting to read a few pages and move on. I opened up this book and I can't stop reading it!

This book is a unique mix of interesting tidbits, great ideas, healing thoughts, general self improvement work and the science behind women's bodies and weight loss.

I have been on this plan for five days and have already shifted my perception about myself and my weight loss journey. I hold my head higher and walk like a "Princess" down the NYC Street and the way that I hold myself has changed people's reaction / interaction with me. I went to yoga and I loved it. As an aggressive business woman I thought that yoga would bore me. Instead I felt more in tune with my body. I felt energized. I was in touch with my body again. I went and got my nails done (another suggestion in the book). I've made a vow to love myself through the weight loss process instead of beating myself up. Every time I see my nails (something so simple) I am reminded of the new deal that I have made with myself.

I have not felt this positive and motivated in a very long time. I do believe that inside of every woman there is a "Princess." That "Princess" is simply the best you that you allow yourself to be!

5.0 von 5 Sternen An Inspiring Book! 19. Dezember 2012
Von Jennifer Bright Reich - Veröffentlicht auf
This book is both very informative and encouraging! I especially enjoyed that it's not your usual "diet" book.

On my own weight loss journey, I appreciate all the encouragement I can get. But with this book, I also appreciate the step-by-step directions for a path to becoming a woman who can lose weight and also become a "Princess" in the process!

In her book, Dr. Hanes deals with everyday issues that face many women, and she shows that it doesn't have to be frustrating to achieve you goals in weight loss. You only have to understand what challenges you're facing and how to overcome them to achieve what you deserve in life: Happiness with yourself.

What a great book!

5.0 von 5 Sternen Not your average Weight Loss Book 4. Dezember 2012
Von Maxine - Veröffentlicht auf
Format:Taschenbuch|Verifizierter Kauf
First, I wasn't sure I wanted to read a weight loss book, so it was a slow start for me ( I should say, I was slow to pick it up). But once I did picked it up, and started reading it, I couldn't put it down. This is much more than a weight loss book, so much more. You know when you have a friend over, and you're talking about something important, and you can feel the connection of understanding between the two of you? That is what this book is like, it's like a friend is telling you what she went through, and how she dealt with it,and finally through her trying and failing, she discovered what did work, and what didn't! It's also a book about loving yourself, enough to get healthy, learning to be a better you on the inside. Although the author did not sit on my sofa chatting with me, with a cup of coffee in hand, it felt like it. She cuts through all the 'garbage', and gets to the heart. I strongly recommend this book.

2.0 von 5 Sternen Offensive to those with PCOS 7. März 2013
Von GrumpyGirl - Veröffentlicht auf
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
I am so incredibly offended that I'm having a hard time even remembering the positives of this book. Not a fan of the "princess" thing or that the author lives in her own little bubble where real life doesn't get in the way of shopping and splurges, but there were some helpful hints that would have made a mature, inspiring book if all of the princess nonsense was stripped away. For some reason, I picture Jane in Drop Dead Diva prissing around as I read this book. For those not familiar with the TV show, a skinny model's spirit is thrust into an overweight lawyer's body so we often see an overweight woman with the affectations of a runway or game show model, but I digress. I could overlook the "princess" theme HOWEVER, what I couldn't overlook...

As a long time sufferer of PCOS, I suggest this woman do more research instead of telling her readers that the ENTIRE medical community is lying. She believes and says PCOS is caused because you're in pain, stuff your face with chips and get fat. Get over your pain, lose weight, and you'll be cured ...or so she says. It's wrong and presumptuous, pure and simple. I, and EVERY PCOS sufferer that I've known personally, was at normal weight, active, and healthy when symptoms began and LONG BEFORE the weight gain, excess hair, infertility, etc. became a problem. I don't doubt that a large percentage of the millions of women who have it were the same. Killing myself to lose the weight down to 120 did NOT magically rid me of PCOS...and the cycle repeats since no ovulation even at low weight still creates more male hormones leading to weight gain and here we go around and around.

Losing weight is not as easy for us and certainly doesn't "cure" PCOS, but it can help in managing it and the author missed the opportunity to provide assistance due to her judgmental attitude. PCOS weight is quite a different animal from "stuffing your face" weight. Perhaps she could try actually doing some research and then offering helpful tips to help those with PCOS instead of insulting and blaming us for a condition that we DIDN'T create by eating junk, that DID take over our bodies when we were young and healthy, that has taken away many women's chances of having babies (and if weight loss "fixed" this, I'd bet there wouldn't be millions of women with PCOS, for this reason alone!) I could go on, but this is just too much. I'm really disappointed in the attitude when someone has a platform that could help women who are struggling with a vicious cycle of hormonal problems. The best that we can hope for is a plan to somewhat manage symptoms because last I checked, there is no cure.

Bottom line: Thanks to that one section, I won't be recommending this book to anyone even with the helpful tidbits dispersed here and there.
