Kurzbeschreibung

Today, young people are traveling to countries such as South Sudan to work in water treatment, and Vietnam to shoot documentaries about healing after war. They are joining in to perform air guitar at festivals in Finland, and listening intently from within the audience at community film screenings in Rwanda.

The challenge of today is not just "where do I fit in one small place," but identity and interaction throughout the world.

The Places We've Been: Field Reports from Travelers Under 35 offers a peer-written collection of 48 vivid and transportive, personal and original nonfiction pieces that portray contemporary snapshots across the globe.

Contributors include:
Theopi Skarlatos, journalist with the BBC
Daniel Ketchum, editor at Marvel Comics
Derek Helwig, twelve-season producer with The Amazing Race
Vanessa Mdee, VJ at MTV Base and HIV/AIDS activist
Kaitlin Solimine, co-founder of HIPPO Reads
Andrew Bisharat, editor-at-large for Rock and Ice magazine
Lisa Dazols, co-filmmaker and blogger of Out & Around
Yuki Aizawa, 2007-2008 facilitator at StoryCorps
Justin "Nordic Thunder" Howard, 2012 Air Guitar World Champion

and many more writers and adventurers, whose publication histories include: The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, The Atlantic, Vogue India, San Francisco Chronicle, Condé Nast Traveler, USA Today, Chicago Tribune, Lonely Planet, Velvet Park, Crab Orchard Review, Arts & Letters, Abu Dhabi Film Festival Magazine, and others

and whose backgrounds include awards from the: National Endowment for the Arts, Bread Loaf Writers Conference, U.S. Department of State Fulbright Creative Arts Fellows, Hedgebrook Writing Residency, Illinois Arts Council, and more

within the book's wide roster, you'll hear from such a range of storytellers, the likes of: a sailor and glaciologist from Scotland, Brooklyn musician, Tanzanian television host, Dubai-based journalist, and a Montreal aerospace medicine enthusiast, plus rural school teachers, a fearless rock climber, five-country midwife, and so many more

5.0 von 5 Sternen Better than potato chips! 28. August 2013

I opened the book randomly and the first story I read left me craving for more! It was like trying to put down that proverbial bag of potato chips. ;) Excellent choice of stories written in a way which allowed the reader to relive the experience of the author! I can't wait to see what else The Places We've Been will come up with next!

An awesome read! Not only a travel stories anthology but a collection of the travellers`s inner thoughts and feelings as they recount their personal journeys and adventures! Very happy I found this book project on Kickstarter and thrilled that it materialized into such an awesome book!

5.0 von 5 Sternen Touching travel tales 28. August 2013
Von Always The - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
These are the most touching travel stories I have ever read. Each author presents a unique and fresh perspective on the places they have been. They are obviously written from the heart with great passion for and great knowledge of the countries to which they traveled. A great read!

This work goes beyond the promise I was given or imagined. These diverse young adult voices sharing intimate stories about experiences and places around the world give us a peak into the living rooms of peoples lives. We all get to travel first class, though inexpensively and feel like welcomed guests...not tourists. Congratulations to Asha Veal Brisebois and her collection of wonderful writers as they share with us "The Places We've Been".

Von Timhead - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
There should be more books like this on the market. Real-life travel stories from diverse corners of the globe and an even more diverse and eclectic collection of writers who really have immersed themselves in the cultures they write about. Travel books should inspire one to travel, and The Places We've Been does this on almost every page!
