5.0 von 5 Sternen Excellent Overview 7. Oktober 2013
Von Michael Gautier - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

A server book may not seem relevant to desktop Ubuntu but knowing more about the core technology can be very useful. You can pick up this knowledge along the way using Web forums and search engine queries, but nothing compares to absorbing such information efficiently through a consolidated medium such as this book. Reading up on these things can at least prepare you in knowing more about what is available, how it works, and where to look for more information. This, in turn may help you to better formulate the questions you need to ask when you begin seeking for more details.

On all accounts, this is a remarkably good book that maps any knowledge you may have about Linux into an efficient structure for knowing more about how to operate Ubuntu more successfully. Whether you are like me and have used Linux for a few years or you are just starting out. This is a good book for better understanding the general sense of Ubuntu as a technology with great information for doing things.

Even when you are running Ubuntu desktop, you might benefit from knowing the most direct and straightforward way to do things. There are many ways to do things without waiting for a GUI program to load. Things like setting up disk images for KVM/Qemu; security for networking; quickly checking on disk and processor usage; and having exposure to the ways of troubleshooting a system in case you need to do so one day.

Perhaps you are deciding between RedHat or Ubuntu. Both are good, but what are the perspectives that describe the strengths of each. Well, this book contains a good history and rationale for Ubuntu that some will greatly appreciate in terms of why it may be more suitable for certain scenarios. All the rest of it is good technical knowledge about many of the general areas of Ubuntu in terms of setting up, monitoring, and running certain kinds of things on the system.

5.0 von 5 Sternen It is what it says! 3. Dezember 2013

This book helped me get my first Ubuntu file server and shares set in record time. It tells you exactly what you need to know to bring the non-GUI LTS release up and running quickly which was all I wanted. I guess I could have just Google'd it but it makes me feel comfortable to have this reference handy at all times when on-call with three separate locations to be called out to at any one time.

It's an easy read. Very relaxed and not a 'school text book' format. It's reads like a hobby interest book, but has lots of great information from the real easy to the intermediate. Glad I bought it.
5.0 von 5 Sternen Excellent with some typos 11. Juli 2014

Love the book.

Only one issue is the dashes and double dashes on the command examples are missing from the text. As an example "apt-get --get-source " is printed as "apt get get source"
