Amazon.com

As an accomplished doctor of veterinary medicine, Martin Goldstein is well respected for his 25 years worth of experience in the field--experience he effectively utilizes in conjunction with his expertise in holistic medicine in his new book, The Nature of Animal Healing: The Path to Your Pet's Health, Happiness, and Longevity. Goldstein begins with a broad explanation of the origins of diseases in pets, then moves on to taking action against those diseases, not only offering thorough discussions of specific ailments--including cancer, allergies, and arthritis--and the holistic medicines available to help in the healing process, but also speaking to the "dubious legacy of vaccines" as well as the questionable quality of pet food. Finally, Goldstein turns his attention to the spiritual realm, addressing both the bonds that we have with our pets--and how those bonds aid in preventing and fighting our pets' health problems--as well as dealing with the death of a beloved pet. Goldstein's expert advice, inclusion of inspiring real-life cases, and thorough resource "compendium of holistic books, newsletters, Web sites, veterinarians, and associations" make this book a valuable addition to any pet owner's library. --Julia King -- Dieser Text bezieht sich auf eine vergriffene oder nicht verfügbare Ausgabe dieses Titels.

From Library Journal

The emerging field of holistic veterinary medicine has spawned a plethora of titles. This comprehensive book sets the standard against which the rest should be judged. Goldstein, a pioneering holistic veterinarian in private practice, explains, in language accessible to the lay reader, his approach to keeping an animal healthy in body and spirit. Using an array of healing modalities that includes conventional, homeopathic, chiropractic, herbal, cryosurgical, and immunotherapeutic protocols, he attacks conditions from fleas and worms to diabetes, epilepsy, and cancer. Their causes, he explains, are immune systems weakened by a diet of poor-quality, overprocessed commercial food; a polluted environment; the overuse of vaccinations, antibiotics, and steroids; and genetic mutations. The spiritual dimension to illness is also discussed. A chapter on euthanasia and dealing with the death of a pet concludes the book. Highly recommended for public libraries.AFlorence Scarinci, Nassau Community Coll. Lib., Garden City, NY

For Dog & Cat Lovers 21. Juni 2000
Von Ein Kunde
Format:Taschenbuch
For those of you who consider your pets as children, this is a great book to read! Very informative (and alarming!) I changed my brand of dog food as soon as I read this book. Great chapter on cancer in dogs and cats and how it has become more prevelant and why (their food has a lot to do with it!)

A REAL EYE OPENER 28. Mai 2000
Von MEJ
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe
The first thing I did, before I even finished the book, was to throw out all the commercial dog & cat food in the house. I will NEVER feed any of my pets that food again. My one dog, suffering from hot spots that started to appear under her paw pads, also developed a growth (within a two week period of time), and arthritis. Only 5 yrs. old, even I knew this wasn't NORMAL. I took her to a more progressive vet for a 2nd opinion, and it was she who recommended this book. Dr. Goldstein book was an eye opener about food, water, vaccines and a holistic approach to health. He also lists the names of holistic vets in the back along with other vital information. My dog's growth is shrinking! And under the efforts of her new holistic vet, her other problems are showing improvement. If you have a pet and Love it, this book is a MUST.

A book like no other... 23. April 2000
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe
After losing my beautiful 6-year-old Rottweiler to bone cancer this past Christmas, I have come to believe that I was primarily responsible for his death through lack of knowledge about food, vaccinations, quality of drinking water and anything else related to whatever it was he ingested during his lifetime. Over the years, vets have been telling me that "this or that kibble" is just fine, and the dogs need to be vaccinated every year, and on and on. Well, Martin Goldstein's book confirmed for me that the multi-national food companies, the pharmaceutical companies and veterinarians are responsible for the needless death of thousands upon thousands of pet each year (and they have the gall to plead ignorance!). Reading Martin Goldstein's book was both a joy, for I am now armed with knowledge to move forward and take control of the lives of my animals, and a sadness, for I have learned too late that I might have been able to prevent the death of this wonderful animal had I had the benefit of this knowledge sooner. Other reviewers here state that Goldstein doesn't provide enough scientific analysis - well, PIFFLE - I've had scientific studies up to here and three scientific vets couldn't tell me what was wrong with my dog until the day he died and they discounted all of my concerns with his condition while he was ill. "No, it can't be cancer; No, his sudden blindness is probably just caused by an auto-immune disease; No, he probably just hurt his leg from running into something because he can't see!" Too much anecdotal evidence in the book? Hardly. I'd rather have concrete examples of the power of natural healing rather than hand over the lives of my animals to someone whose only vested interest is in making money from them (veterinarians, dog food companies, etc.) Goldstein is an honest-to-god saint. I hope you're reading this Dr. Goldstein for I would walk to the ends of the earth for you because of the gift you have given me and many other people who truly love their pets. A wonderful read, I truly enjoyed every word and I recommend it to anyone who honestly cares about their pets.
