Produktbeschreibungen

From Library Journal

This sequel to Holy Blood, Holy Grail ( LJ 1/15/82) continues the authors' investigation of the French Cabal, the Prieure de Sion. It is divided into three sections: (1) the concept of Messiahship in the thought of Jesus and his contemporaries, (2) the relevance of the concept today, and (3) the current activities of the Prieure. The three sections are related briefly in the epilogue: the Prierue, it is claimed, can provide a leader (Messiah) of the kind the world wants and needs. As with the previous volume, this one suffers from unsound generalizations, unfounded assumptions, and questionable handling of scholarly research. However, since some who read Holy Blood will be interested in the sequel, it is recommended, with reservations, for larger public libraries. Craig W. Beard, Harding Univ. Lib., Searcy, Ark.

Kurzbeschreibung

Holy Blood, Holy Grail rocked the very foundations of Christianity. Now four more years of research have uncovered shocking material — and its earthshaking consequences.

• What extraordinary meaning lies behind Jesus' title — "King of the Jews"?
• Was there more than one Christ?
• Who really constituted Jesus' following — and what were the real identities of Simon Peter and Judas Iscariot?
• Who now has the ancient treasure of the Temple of Jerusalem?
• What is the true source of today's Christian "Fundamentalism"?
• What links the Vatican, the CIA, the KGB, the Mafia, Freemasonry, and the Knights Templar?
• What is the stunning goal of the European secret society that traces its lineage back to Christ and the House of David?

The Messianic Legacy. Here is the book that reveals the answers to these intriguing, potentially explosive questions. Utilizing the same meticulous research that catapulted their first book onto the best seller lists, the authors again bring an enlighteneing message of truth — and urgent importance — to Christians and non-Christians the world over.

Part One and Two represent a good summary of lateral thought and analysis. Nicely written, but not always giving the necessary scientific reference, which it takes its claims from. Thus it sometimes fails to convincingly corroborate its theory with the necessary factual underpinnings. Bottomline however for part One and Two is certainly a challenging and interesting read - part even fascinating -, which clearly deserves attention.

Part Three is completely different. It appears to be written by a different person than those who wrote Part One and Two. It has not only little bearing and relevance regarding the subject in Part One and Two, but it is also written incoherently, sensationalistic and scientificly nonsensical. The utter scientific nonsense of not only making the Merowingians a French royal dynasty taking its origin in the Davidian line of Israel, is so far out of the historicly proven context that it almost hurts to have wasted one's attention to Part One and Two of this book, which are clearly devalued by its incoherent Part Three. The history of the Merowingians as part of the Frankonian empire evolving from Frankonia in Germany, installed as the rulers of the West Frankonian Empire and as a part of the overall Frankonian empire, is not only clear and scientificly unambiguous, it is also provable. Much in difference to the garbled context, given in the book, which lacks most coherent reference to history and mostly seems to be just what its title says it is: A "Cabala" which resembles nothing else than a sensationalistic conspiracy theory.

This is the kind of book that you just can't pick up. After reading "Holy Blood, etc" and enjoying it immensely, I expected more of the same. Not so. Instead I got a loosely connected screed about the Bible, Christianity, and whatever the authors could come up with just to fill up the pages. Boring and very disappointing.

Firstly, this book is much less coherent than "Holy Blood, Holy Grail." (If you did not read that book, do NOT buy this one. HBHG is a wonderful book, pseudo-history at it's best. ML assumes you know the theories laid out in HBHG). The first fourth of the book is just more "proof" of the authors' claims about Jesus. It adds the claim that Timothy was Jesus's twin and that Saint Paul distorted Christianity, but it's not all that interesting.

The second fourth is devoted to vicious (and now dated) attacks against President Ronal Reagan and American fundementalists. The authors, instead of criticising Reagen on his record, choose a barage of name calling.

The second half of the book is a masterpiece. It continues the Holy Blood, Holy Grail story by adding more information. Pierre Plantard figures prominently, and the Priere of Sion is made more "round." If you loved Holy Blood, Holy Grail you will almost love this book. Once you get the first half out of the way it is hard to put down. Though nothing "definitive" is reached, the conspiracy looks even better. When you finish it you wish the book was longer... parting with this book is "such sweet sorrow."

And as always, more cryptic mottos:
