Als begeisterter Leser des vorangegangenen Werkes The McKinsey Way war ich von The McKinsey Mind außerordentlich enttäuscht. Das vorangegangene Buch wurde auf das Nötigste zusammengekocht und dann mit völlig nichtssagendem allgemeinem Lob wieder verdünnt und aufgefüllt. Die einzigen echten Informationen in diesem Buch sind explizite zusammenfassende Abschnitte des Vorgängerwerkes. Meine Empfehlung: Kaufen Sie sich The McKinsey Way. Falls Sie es schon gelesen haben und gerne die selben Informationen noch einmal wiederholen wollen, lesen Sie halt The McKinsey Way ein zweites Mal.

Das Buch verspricht, die eher beschreibenden Elemente aus dem Vorgängerbuch "The McKinsey Way" praktisch umzusetzen und führt durch die typische Strukturierung eines Projektes bei McKinsey. Herauskommt eine Anleitung zur Problemlösung, die jedoch abstrakter ausfällt, als es der Klappentext und die Einleitung anpreisen. Mehr Beispiele hätten dem Verständnis gut getan. Zugute halten muß man dem Buch, daß es gut strukturiert ist, sich auf das Wesentliche konzentriert, nicht wiederholend ist und sich nicht in Ausführungen verliert. Eingestreute Zitate von McKinsey-Alumni aus deren Zeit nach McKinsey verdeutlichen die Umsetzbarkeit und Relevanz der Methodik.
Teile des Buches richten sich an Manager, die in ihren Organisationen über ein Mindestmaß an Einfluß verfügen, um z.B. die Arbeitsweise von Teams, des Rekruitingprozesses etc. zu verändern. Einem Berufseinsteiger, dem die Beratungswelt vielleicht geläufiger ist, bringen diese Abschnitte keinen Mehrwert. Der Problemlösungsteil, der den Großteil des Buches ausmacht, ist jedoch gleichermaßen für gestandene Manager wie für Berufseinsteiger (und als Anleitung zur Strukturierung von Case Studies sogar für Bewerber bei Unternehmensberatungen) von Wert.

Das Buch ist sehr gut strukturiert und gibt wichtige generelle Hinweise, wie man das Beste aus einem Business Case machen kann, wie man ein Problem handelt, wie man am besten die Informationen sammelt und analysiert, wie man die Ergebnisse präsentiert und wie man am besten sich selbst und die andere managen kann. Es geht gar nicht ins Detail, aber ist leicht und angenehm zu lesen, und hat mir sehr hilfreiche Hinweise gegeben. The McKinsey Way (vom gleichen Schriftsteller) war im Vergleich wirklich sehr schlecht.
