The recipes are really good, and I have tried several with fantastic results. I just wish there were more than 8 photos. I love cookbooks with photos, so I have something to compare to, and or live up to. Smile! If you are a visual person, this cookbook will not please you. If you can live without the photos, I highly recommend this book, as the recipes are easy and taste great!

I needed a dessert and I had blueberries and so I found the Blueberry Crumb Pie recipe and made it on the fly. It made the picnic! Everyone was ooo-ing and ahhh-ing over the pie. It was so delicious. If half the recipes are as good as this one, I will be happy. This recipe is worth the price of the book.

Hard to believe that a few people were disappointed with this book! I've tried 4 recipes so far (cookies, muffins) and am extremely pleased. So are my friends and family - I make cookies several times a month to keep up with the demand! Although I've baked with reasonable success for about 20 years I don't have a real knack for it. However, by following these recipes carefully I've found that I can consistently produce extremely good results. I'm looking forward to trying some of the cake and pie recipes around Christmas time.

this review is actually from my wife! I am a big fan of the delicious cupcakes and other goodies at the Magnolia Bakery and was pleased to find out that they opened a similar store near my work (Bttercup Bakery) Unfortunately we moved uptown and it was very difficult for me to have my cupcakes on the weekends. Then I happen to find this book and immedialy purchased it hoping to recreate some of the magic from the bakery but lo and behold I am a terrible cook - so I did the next best thing and gave this book as a holiday present to my wife and earmarked the pages where I wanted her to concentrate on. The book must be geat because the output of my wife's work was just as good as the real thing and now I am happy on the weekdends. It is the first gift that I have given that I can reap the rewards over and over again! My wife enjoys using the recipes and I enjoy eating the results..............The only problem for the authors is that I do not visit the bakeries as much as we can replicate my favorites at home

I have never come across a cookbook that I've loved more. So far we've made the Strawberry Oat Squares, Chocolate Peanut Butter Brownies, and the Brownies with Cream Cheese Icing. I actually made the strawberry oat squares with a cherry pie filling, and they turned out wonderful. I think the recipie should have called for more cherry pie filling, but it was still good. The chocolate peanut butter brownies were excellent, and the cream cheese frosted brownies were amazing! (it calls for quite a lot of frosting, and it might be overwhelming to some, but I loved it.) I hope Jennifer Appel and Allysa Torey do another cookbook soon!

This book is not for folks who look for recipes for biscotti, tiramisu, passion fruit sorbet, and the likes...the Magnolia Bakery desserts are simply old-fashioned, homey, and very much like the way American grandmothers used to bake. Nothing is new except maybe for a couple of cheesecakes...but still with this book, you are now able to bake lots of great American classics from scratch.. instead of buying cakes, pies, cookies, etc. at the supermarkets which use gallons of chemicals, preservatives, etc. From this book, I've made Apple Crumb Pie (very easy to make, delicious, simple), Blueberry Muffins (just like my grandma's), Molasses Cookies (great on their own without the icing which I didnt make), and Coconut Cake (absolutely to live for!). I'm hoping the authors are working on a second book and if they do, I'm begging them to include other Ameerican classics, such as Red Velvet Cake, Banana Pudding, Applesauce Cake, and Pumpkin Bread.

I had high hopes for this book, but was disappointed. The blueberry muffins were terrible.The recipe called for three cups of flour, which I thought seemed like quite alot. The muffins tasted bland, like cooked flour. Maybe it's a misprint. I also made the butterscotch cheesecake brownies. They were very sweet, overdone at the edge and underdone in the center. I consider myself a skilled baker, and the directions were clear. I was not happy with the results.
