Jesus was a Messiah behind enemy lines – God come into a sinful world ruled by evil. He was on a secret mission to save humanity. To Jesus’ first-century Jewish contemporaries, whatever the Nazarene might be, he was not simply ‘another good rabbi.’ Jesus was a polarizing figure. One believed either that this powerful preacher and wonderworker was uniquely of God or that he was an agent of the Evil One. As he said in Luke’s Gospel, “Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters” (Lk. 11:23).

We often speak of the love, mercy, and compassion of Jesus, but Malachi also prophesied of him, “Yes, he is coming, says the LORD of hosts. But who will endure the day of his coming? And who can stand when he appears? For he is like a refiner’s fire” (Mal. 3:1-2). That is indeed how he came. Jesus was always moved by love of God and neighbor, but he was not always ‘nice.’ He was “meek and humble of heart” (Mt. 11:29) but never tame. Innocent though he was, it is little wonder that his boldness and zeal for righteousness provoked such powerful enemies; he knew it would be so. Jesus walked the earth at a time when human life had become cheapened, and prompt and brutal execution was a matter not so much of justice as of expedience. Ultimately, Jesus’ paradoxical roles as fiery prophet and meek Lamb of God would intersect on the wood of the cross.

5.0 von 5 Sternen The Life and Times of Jesus: Part 2 9. Juli 2014
Von Georgigir; - Veröffentlicht auf
Format:Kindle Edition
As with Part 1, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and learning so much more than I had known before. I grew up in an Intellectual Jewish home and was taught to ask many questions. I thought that over the years, especially since I turned my life of to Yeshua (Jesus) the Messiah, I had learned most of what there was to be known about the history behind His life and times. I was wrong. Mr.Ruszala introduced me to much I had never expected, and did so in a way that was both educational and fascinating. I was never bored, even tho' I am NOT a "history buff", and when I was done I had a wonderful degree of insight into the person and real history of the One I had entrusted my life and my soul to. I agree that I may never totally (or even partially, for that matter) know or understand G-d's plan for me or mankind - but as long as I have taken that leap of faith into His loving arms, it doesn't matter what I do or do not know or understand. All I need is to walk in His way and light - He will take care of the rest. Thank you Mr.Ruszala for showing me so much than I ever expected to know; and to Wyatt North for making the book(s) available to me. I hope others with -or even without - any questions about a more complete history of Jesus than even the Bible tells us will read this, as well as Part 1.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Jesus in History 6. Juli 2014
Von Sr. Maryann Schaefer - Veröffentlicht auf
Format:Kindle Edition
This is the perfect book for anyone who wishes to put Jesus in the historical setting of his time. It is a great resource for anyone studying Jesus' life from the point of history. Though it is historical in nature, it keeps your interest level high as you follow in Jesus' footsteps from the eyes of onlookers.
I also like how the author does bring in scripture to solidify his statements. Just a wonderful book. Thank you!

5.0 von 5 Sternen Very insightful based on commonality between Roman Catholic Church and Protestant faith in Messiah Jesus 8. Juli 2014
Von Brother Richard Tiegs - Veröffentlicht auf
Format:Kindle Edition
Having reviewed the first book in Mr Ruszala's series on Jesus the Messiah, I find this one a most enjoyable and insightful read. While I come from a Protestant/Messianic/Hebrew Roots point of view, thoughts and ideas presented here from the more Roman Catholic resources and writers viewpoints are just what is needed to separate the teachings of men in non-essentials from the Truth of the WORD bring the parties together. I do not mean this in an ecumenical point of view but in a Bibilical Faith and Life standard that is so very needed. My concerns regarding documentation of source material still resonates yet a simple on-line search can resolve these issues. DO buy and DO take the time to read this second in a series of the life of our Messiah, Yeshua/Jesus. Your understanding will become greater as you realize that the sub-title THE MESSIAH BEHIND ENEMY LINES becomes the reality and realization of what we, His followers are also; in the midst of a war. Now it is time to determine who you are going to please and serve; self, the adversary or the King of KINGS! As an aside, I was provided this book as a gift by the publisher for the purpose of and honest and forthright review and no other considerations were given.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Good solid narrative that both entertains and instructs. 6. Juli 2014
Von pb - Veröffentlicht auf
Format:Kindle Edition
Scholarly yet straightforward explanation of the story we call the Gospels. The narrative and the scriptural quotations are nicely balanced and presented in everyday English. The reader need not even be Christian to easily follow Jesus during his day to day ministry.

"Behind Enemy Lines" presents Jesus as a man on a mission. Put simply, he would sacrifice his life to save ours, preferably with the help of his disciples, but in spite of them, if necessary.

The Synoptic gospels are presented for comparison and contrast, with possible reasons given where they do not agree. The Gospel of John is not neglected, either. John is quoted when he presents a unique clarification of Jesus's actions or sayings in the other three books.

Just as in "Earthly Beginnings," the broad description of the people and society takes the reader to a fuller understanding of why and how things progressed as they did. Jesus behaved with love and compassion: somewhat unusual for a leader there and then. Everyone else creates a huge puzzle that is difficult for us moderns to decipher. The author's approach is most welcome when he is considering other major players, such as Pilate and Herod, their actions and pronouncements.

"Behind Enemy Lines" makes a perfectly acceptable stand-alone account of Christ's last days. Read on the heels of "Earthly Beginnings" this book is a highly satisfying conclusion to Jesus life, ministry and death.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Important reading 12. Juli 2014
Von David P. Boland - Veröffentlicht auf
Format:Kindle Edition
This is the second book in the series and can be a stand alone book but is better if you read the first one before this
This is an easy "bible study" book in that it compares what is said in all the gospels with the action in Jesus' life we are talking about.
While I have read and studied the 4 gospels I had never done it side by side. I thought it was interesting how the life of Jesus was told , often,
slightly differently by the gospel writers
These two books are ones that all Christians should read
