Written in a quite humorous style about a very serious topic - building child centred learning for your students. It
s not a "how to"" book, but gives plenty of examples and rationale why a teacher should make the kids do the work in the classroom. making the teacher the resource person, guide and facilitator. The illustrations are quite amusing - I especially liked marking RIP :). An excellent resource to turn your learning environment into something dynamic for yourself and your students.

There was some stuff in here that was mildly helpful however, most was either commonsensical or not particularly labor-saving. Get it from the library.

The author manages to bring home his main point very clearly: In class the pupils have to work, not the teacher. Quite good tips are given how to achieve this. But the process to really do this is far from lazy - you actually have to prepare much better than teaching the traditional way.
Very recommendable book!

HASH(0xa206475c) von 5 Sternen Don't be fooled by other reviewers, common sense isn't that common. This book is a gem. 8. Dezember 2015

It's great! I have only read the introduction and the first few pages and already I learned valuable techniques that made my class time much better. I am a new teacher and I almost didn't get the book because some people said its "commonsense." Well speak for yourself! Too often people always assume something is commonsense because they have already learnt it and have been using it for years. They forgot that at one point they were new to the profession and had to figure it all out. I can't speak for experienced teachers, but for a new teacher this had some great ideas that I found helpful. I'm a very creative teacher so for me just having a short idea can lead to an epiphany and a whole new set of ideas. For me this book has already been a spark for new ideas. I realized I can make my students do more of the teaching themselves and they will learn more and enjoy learning more. I made my students teachers for a lesson and they did a great job.

Also just the introduction made my day better because it was nice to hear that I am not the only who feels like even though teaching is our passion, there has to be a better way than working so hard every day you go home ready to pass out. I want to be the best teacher, but I don't want to destroy my health or personal life. This book gave me hope that I could find a solution to that problem.

1/2 full of basic common sense; 1/2 full of suggestions that could get you fired. Already in the trash. Waste of money.
