This series provides an ideal platform to study chess openings. By continually challenging the reader to answer probing questions throughout the book, the Move by Move format greatly encourages the learning and practising of vital skills just as much as the traditional assimilation of opening knowledge.

Carefully selected questions and answers are designed to keep you actively involved and allow you to monitor your progress as you learn. This is an excellent way to study any chess opening and at the same time improve your general chess skills and knowledge.

The King's Indian Attack is a very popular system of development for White, which can be used against many defences. It’s easy to learn and play, and is based on understanding ideas rather than move memorization. The King's Indian Attack usually involves a deliberate and sustained attack on the black king, which often proves to be highly effective and difficult to defend against. In this book Grandmaster Neil McDonald examines in depth the many variations of the King's Indian Attack. He outlines White's most promising options and Black’s best defences, and provides answers to all the key questions.

o                                Essential guidance and training in the King’s Indian Attack

Superb KIA repertoire 8. Juni 2014
Von anthroguy - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
My memory for chess books goes back nearly 60 years, so I feel pretty confident when I say that there are few opening repertoire books as useful and well wrought as McDonald's KIA. His work is up to date -- many games and games references in 2012 and 2013 -- and clearly written, with numerous explanations, including a plethora of the formal Q&A that are meant to be the hallmark of this Everyman series. McDonald has written a broad array of books for amateur chessplayers, some better than others, but this one stands apart.

I recommend this book primarily to players rated about 1600-1800 US. I note that diligent 1500 players could find it accessible, and that even 1900 players could use it to fill in the gaps.

Stunningly instructive, one of the best chess books I have ever owned 2. Dezember 2014
Von KYC - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
This is a phenomenal book. The amount of details, hand-holding and explanations are astounding. It can be used as a supplementary strategy manual if you have no interest on the King's Indian Attack.

McDonald does not make any omissions and meticulously describes even the minute differences the move order makes showing both pro's and con's. For instance in comparing 3. Qe2 with 3. Nd2 you get to learn that keeping the knight at bay can be useful for a later deep-tempo with Na3-Nb4 hitting a queen on c7, while Black can try to outwit this move order by castling short and arguing that 3. Qe2 was a waste of time.

The book is extremely detailed, giving the reader the impression that it is targeted for a lower level audience, however these details are as deep as it gets! McDonald treats the audience as an "adult" - not dumbing down anything. If there is an evaluation, he almost always explains the ideas behind them, never leaving a dry , "White is doing better here" in the air.

The little exercises, his clear prose, and the comprehensive KIA repertoire makes it a 10/10 book. I highly recommend it.

A viable opening system for white after 1.e4 e6 1.e4 c5 1.e4 c6, and a system after 1.Nf3 26. Januar 2015

AS a USCF rated 1698 tournament chess player, I like this book quite a lot. I like that Neil McDonald spends somde text to explain the nuances of certain move orders, that, if played in the wrong order, could make your game into a bit of a nightmare for white. It makes sense to try to simplify ones opening arsenal as much as possible. I play 1.e4 quite frequently. So, I have to have an opening to play if my opponent answers 1.e4 e5. I can play either the Vienna Game, or the Bishops Opening, and those are my choices, with a bit of a preference to the later of the two. I have found in my games that the French Defense can be a tough nut to crack, and I play it as black a lot. Needless to say, if you play 1.e4, you had better have something prepared to use against the Sicilian Defense, as black's winning percentage is pretty high, and it is a very popular defense. With the KIA opening, you have a way to answer both of these defenses, and have pretty similiar, and sometimes exactly the same positions as white. The same for facing the Caro Kan Defense. If you play 1.e4 then, you can pick your system for double e pawn openings, and use the KIA for about anything else except for the Skandinavian/Center Counter. I'm also looking into the somewhat dubious Tennison Gambit, which can be used against 1.e4 d5 2.Nf3. I am not too far into this book yet, but find Mr. McDonald's style and explanation of the opening moves very helpful.

Profit a lot from little study 18. Mai 2015
Von Han Elsker - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verifizierter Kauf
The best book according to the ratio of tangible effect on my play to the actual effort involved in reading it. In simple English I gained a lot in terms of opening preparation for very few hours of reading. I started playing the same system in all my white games with very good results and with a noticeable irritation on the part of my opponents. I play blitz online. My level could be approximated by the term expert.
King's Indian Attack Review 1. November 2015

Not a complete waste of money, but not anywhere near what was expected. The analysis is spotty and the alternatives that are given are often second-rate.
