“James Rollins knows adventure.” (Chicago Sun-Times)

“James Rollins is a master of international action and intrigue.” (Richmond Times-Dispatch)

“Amazonia grabs you by the throat...Rollins is one of the most inventive storytellers writing today. Don’t dare miss this one!” (Lincoln Child, co-author of The Ice Limit)

“A spiraling, high-octane adventure, loaded with cutting-edge technology and jam-packed with action and mayhem. This pulse-pounding thriller moves at mach speed. James Rollins is clearly at the top of his game.” (Steve Berry, bestselling author of The Romanov Prophecy on Map of Bones)

“Nobody—and I mean nobody—does this stuff better than Rollins.” (Lee Child on The Devil Colony)

“Rollins just gets better with each book, and his position at the top of this particular subgenre remains unshaken.” (Publishers Weekly)

“The science... reads like the best of Michael Crichton. The machinations of government read like the best of David Baldacci. And the action and thrills read like the best of Clive Cussler. “The taut and complex story sprints across the globe from Russia to Istanbul to southern Africa to the United States, and offers a diverse cast of well-developed characters and a tightly woven plot that intrigues, excites, and doesn’t let go.” (Library Journal (starred review) on THE KILL SWITCH)

Who does the US government call upon when a mission requires perfect stealth, execution, and discretion? Meet the newest recruits to the expanding Sigma Force universe - former Army Ranger Tucker Wayne and his stalwart companion, Kane, a military working dog of exceptional abilities.

The mission seems simple enough: extract a pharmaceutical magnate from Russian soil, a volatile man who holds the secret to a deadly bio-weapon. But nothing is as it appears to be. A conspiracy of world-shattering scope unravels as Tucker and Kane struggle to keep one move ahead of their deadly enemies. From the frozen steppes of Russia to the sun-blasted mountains of South Africa and Namibia, a biological threat millions of years in the making strikes out at the heart of America. All that stands in the way from a global apocalypse: one man and his dog. But can even Tucker and Kane thwart an ecological menace out of the ancient past to save the world's future?

Another hero by Rollins, this time with four legs and super sensitive noose. I very much enjoy reading it from start to end.

Eher eine lasche Neu-Version von Lassie als ein Thriller. Ein Mann und sein Hund reisen um die Welt und man weiss nie so recht, warum eigentlich.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Not my favorite Rollins... 3. März 2014
Von K.Wagner - Veröffentlicht auf
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe|Vine Kundenrezension eines kostenfreien Produkts (Was ist das?)
I am a fan of James Rollins. I have read several of his books and liked them quite well. I frequently recommend him at the library where I work. I have read other Sigma Force novels and found them to have just enough grit and plenty of story to them. To be honest, I was already well into the book before I realized that this was a collaboration with another writer. Perhaps that is what the difference is for me? I'm honestly not sure.

The Kill Switch: A Tucker Wayne Novel is a thrilling ride, but perhaps just a wee bit too thrilling? It seems to me that it was a bit light on story and a bit heavy on artillery and adventure? I read suspense and thriller very frequently, and as I said, I am a fan of Rollins. This one was a good solid read, but will never make it to my "keep this book for rereads" shelf.

I loved the relationship between Tucker and Kane. They make a good team and I will always like a dog lover, in a book or out of one, so that was good. Poor Kane had a bit of a rough time of it though, as did Tucker. They didn't have a moments peace, it was just running from one hail of bullets or dangerous situation to another. I like more story in my reads. Whether the fact that it was a collaboration had anything to do with it or not, I'm not sure. I will be a bit more careful to look for that in the future, however.

5.0 von 5 Sternen From Russia with killers on their trail. 24. Februar 2014
Von Joy V. Smith - Veröffentlicht auf
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe|Vine Kundenrezension eines kostenfreien Produkts (Was ist das?)
This thriller has a great team, Tucker Wayne and Kane, his highly trained and devoted military dog. Not only is there non-stop danger and suspense--and who can you trust--but the characters he encounters, deals with, or rescues, keep you moving forward. Kane's action is told from the dog's point of view and is well done. I enjoyed that--and since I have dogs--I watch with a critical eye for dogs as props or unbelievable actions. Okay, really unbelievable actions. There are scary moments and poignant moments, and the heroes utilize a variety of modes of travel, including feet. They do not have it easy. And on top of one scene after another of unexpected danger, you are waiting for the danger that Tucker isn't expecting, but we are because of the prologue that takes place long ago and far away--from Russia anyway. Highly recommended--and there's another reason that I loved this book, but I can't share 'cause it'd be a spoiler...

Be sure to look at the map at the beginning of the book; it gives you an idea of their Russian trek...

5.0 von 5 Sternen Love the guy, love the dog, love the book 15. April 2014
Von Vickie T. - Veröffentlicht auf
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe|Vine Kundenrezension eines kostenfreien Produkts (Was ist das?)
Tucker Wayne and his dog Kane were introduced in the last Sigma Force book, Bloodline, and I thought they were a great addition to the team. I was happy to have the chance to review The Kill Switch, which is the first full-length novel in which Tucker and Kane have the starring role.

In terms of the basic story, The Kill Switch is very similar to the typical Sigma Force novel. There is a mystery based loosely on some bit of science, the action is non-stop and involves some kind of chase across multiple countries, and the main characters are smart, heroic, and tough. Like Bloodline, The Kill Switch also presents a number of scenes from the dog's point of view, which gives the reader a different take on things. And, like the other Sigma Force novels, this book requires a certain level of willing suspension of disbelief - sometimes you've just got to go with it and not think to deeply.

If you are a fan of James Rollins' Sigma Force novels or just of fast-paced action-adventure novels in general, I highly recommend The Kill Switch. I hope there will be more books featuring Tucker Wayne and Kane.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Good dog! 2. März 2014
Von Paper or Kindle - Veröffentlicht auf
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe|Vine Kundenrezension eines kostenfreien Produkts (Was ist das?)
Tucker and Kane are a team, closer than spouses, best friends, and practically joined at the hip. The fact that Kane is a Belgian Malinois rather than a person just adds the Awww! factor. The two get into some tight situations, with shootouts and traps and hair's-breadth escapes. The author is known for doing ingenious spins on actual science and history, and that's the case here. Starting with a strange infection in 1900 in South Africa, winding up with a defecting scientist in modern Russia, Tucker and Kane flounder through snowdrifts, burrow through tunnels, yet somehow find help at critical moments during their mission: to retrieve that scientist and get him out of town before the Bad Guys step in. I don't know why Rollins has begun co-writing, and I wish he wouldn't. Or perhaps he always used a ghost writer (he's originally a veterinarian) and we're only seeing the names now. This seems to be a trend, where authors like James Patterson have become like franchises, a different co-author on each book. I hope Rollins isn't planning to follow suit. The best parts of the book are its breakneck pacing and the comradeship between Tucker and Kane. The worst parts are the clichéd details that seem designed for a movie pitch or comic book, like the gorgeous vamp - from a good family, naturally - who is a highly trained assassin. C'mon, guys - how many beautiful, well-to-do, educated women opt to become mercenaries? And how come English-speaking people pop out of the woodwork in remote foreign hamlets? However, I read this book for the dog and the plot and was happy with both, even though the side details struck me as unsophisticated.

Thank you, James Rollins, for all of your books. Each one is a pleasure to read. Due to the outstanding work put into each novel. I, especially, enjoy your earlier works. Your love of nature, adventures, dogs and imagination shines through your work. Carry on.

However, it would be really nice and different to be able to feature a cat at work too! Think about it, please!
