Learn all about bonsai tree design and care with this comprehensive Japanese bonsai gardening book.

Japanese miniature landscapes and, particularly, dwarf trees-"bonsai," as they are frequently called even in the West-have long been admired throughout the world. It may come as a surprise to inexperienced gardeners but the creation and care of bonsai is a comparatively simple art which can actually be systematically taught rather than, as in earlier books on the subject, just talked about vaguely. Now, given a reasonably green thumb and a modicum of patience, anyone in any country can create his own bonsai.

The Japanese art of Miniature Trees and Landscapes contains detailed instructions, together with many helpful diagrams and charts and a treasury of photographs, on every phase of the art: propagation and training, with hints for those in a hurry and for small-apartment dwellers; daily and seasonal care, and treatment of pests; how to judge, select, and exhibit bonsai, with emphasis always upon the untold enjoyment they can provide. Included also, for those who want still more detailed information, are invaluable appendices concerning tools and equipment, soil analyses, and precise data on the more than three hundred species of plants used in making bonsai.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Highly technical and informative. 18. Oktober 2000
Von Soggyinseattle - Veröffentlicht auf
This book, beyond a doubt, has all of the information the serious bonsai artist needs to know. A friend gave me this book when I first expressed an interest in bonsai, and it succeeded in intimidating me. The authors provide very thorough details about creating bonsai, and take it to the level of science rather than art. However, it is because of this high degree of detail that I was struck with how serious the art really can be. I find it unfortunate that it is currently out of print, since it does cover bonsai in such detail. I would tend to recommend Japanese Art of Miniature Trees and Landscapes to the person who is quite dedicated to pursuing the art, and would not recommend it to a person with a more casual interest.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Excellent bonsai book 30. März 2000

This is one of the best bonsai books. It should be in every seriuos hobbyst's library. It contains all the information needed to get started on bonsai. It has an apendix for tools, equipment and soil, and another one very helpfull, with plant names in Chinese-Japanese Characters. Yoshimora is a truly great Bonsai master. The disvantages are that the B&w photos are not of very good quality and the text can be a little tedious to read

4.0 von 5 Sternen Great alternative to "Bonsai Techniques I" 30. Juni 2010
Von E. A. Mercado - Veröffentlicht auf
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe
This book was written with the complete neophyte in mind. It assumes you know nothing of bonsai (including what bonsai is) and takes you through the steps needed to start working on your own trees.

There are wonderful pictures of trees, but they are certainly in a style that has fallen out of favor. Its obvious which school of bonsai took off and which did not. Nevertheless, the instructions are detailed and clear. The process is demystified and made accessible.

Most people point to John Naka when it comes to a great beginner book and I agree, but this is a great alternative to "Bonsai Techniques I" that usually can be found for much less money.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Exceptional bonsai book 23. Juni 2011

I have owned a copy of this book for decades, and it is still the book to which I turn most often for both how-to information and inspiration. The technical detail is excellent, as noted in other reviews, and the photographs, both color and black-and-white, give abundant examples of truly beautiful trees in every conceivable style. The sections on proper wiring technique alone are worth the price of the book.

5.0 von 5 Sternen great book 8. März 2014

I first became aware of this book at a Shohin Bonsai show in Santa Nella California in February 2014 and thought to myself I just have to have this book. I came home and log into Amazon and low and behold it was there so I ordered it is exactly like the seller said it would be. It has a very nice looking cover and well taken care of. Some age of course, and the smell of the book reminded me of sitting in the library on weekends consuming knowledge. Once I turned to it pages I soon realize that this is a book that was hard to put down. The author put a lot into this book which contain detail information on all types of bonsai. I can only say that this book is a must have if one wishes to continue their journey in the art of Bonsai. It is a great book for beginners and a great reference book for the advance traveler. I have read several books on the art of Bonsai and I must say that this is by far one of the best and is a must have in any library. This book is everything I thought it would be and more. I definitely will not part with it. This book is my treasure. A find that I will cherish.
